You better believe they go faster (at least in our minds) and can go neck and neck with those chrome beauties! Best of luck on your build.

I've had this on up to ~56mph. It's the 10 speed Campy that does it
. I recommend you build yours up with a modern drivetrain, and never look back:

Red bikes go fastewr, but you have to watch out for the cops because they will pull you over faster for speeding. Oh wait a minute is that on bikes or in cars, sometimes I get so confused.

Yep, they do go faster. My red Pinarello went in 6 min on eBay. (priced too low, I guess)
It must be the color....
72 Triumph, 84 Centurion (2), 85 Cinelli Centurion, 86 Centurion (2), 92 Paramount, 97 Kestrel, 98 Bianchi, 2003 Trek, 2003 Kestrel

I think red bikes do in fact go faster. As proof, I offer that all of my bikes are not-red, and they all go slow.

Since Sporty and I have only hit 48 mph, I'm feeling a little envious.
I guess I need to find a longer steeper hill!

Even the Centurions.
This is an '84, a little darker red.....and it's 2x9-speed.
(someone forgot to tell me I couldn't do it)
The '83 metallic red Turbo is being built.
The '86 red/white Ironman from geekrunner is being re-assembled.
The '87 red/white Ironman from mrmw is being delivered

here's mine I don't have anymore, but it was fast when I test rode it:

Here's what I rode in our mountain bike club road century, I had it up to 49 MPH down some rolling southern Indiana roads:
