You can only have two....

Let's say China and WalMart own American and decree no more than two bikes per family.

From your present inventory, pick two and the rest go to an orphanage.
This is easy if you have two.

If you only have one bike, you may adopt one.
No newborns, consider them allotted to party officials.

I'll start:
1988 Ironman Carbon, frame up build with Campy.
200? Airborne Ti, frame up build with DA.

Gosh I hope the rest go to a good home.

DavidW56 01-17-09 01:14 PM

The 1989 Pinarello with Campy everything and the 1972 Schwinn Suburban, which will outlive me.

rotharpunc 01-17-09 01:25 PM

if anyone tried to make that decree i'm whipping up some molotov cocktails

wahoonc 01-17-09 01:25 PM

First off WM and China can both kiss my Big White Hairy Butt:roflmao2::p

Out of the current inventory? I would keep my 1972 Raleigh Superbe and probably my 1989 Giant Iguana Expedtion bike. Both steel and both very easy to maintain.

Future inventory? I would keep some form of long cargo bike and a folder. Those most likely would either be a CETMA Cargo, possibly a Bakfiets with the folder being either a Brommie or a Dahon TR.

scozim 01-17-09 01:29 PM

The 1997 Bianchi (not a classic or vintage, but I'd still keep it) and the 1984 Gitane Tour de France.

-holiday76 01-17-09 01:45 PM

hmm, same as scozim, I'd have to keep my Bianchi and my Gitane.

jgedwa 01-17-09 02:02 PM

BATF would have to storm my compound to get them.

But if if they suceeded, if fear I would keep two modern bikes, both Surly's coincidentally:

-Karate Monkey 29er 1x9
-CrossCheck Nexus commuter

Would I get to keep unbuilt framesets?

And I thought China and Wally already owned us?

I'd send the news to Bike Forums' Advocacy & Safety discussion board.

We all know half of the nuts on that forum are such radical extremist wack-jobs that they would literally stop at nothing - including guerrilla warfare - to eliminate this "problem."

If this is an invasion my Motobecane is outta here. The French aren't worth a darn in an invasion.

I couldn't do it. I'd bury the lot along with my stash of H&K and await the organization of the resistance.

I'm afraid I'd have to do that as well.

You'll give me nightmares...

TeamTi700 01-17-09 03:04 PM

I would have to keep my 2000 Santana TeamTi700, and my 96 VooDoo Wanga (which would be used to commute to work all year around).

Since one of these is a tandem, how would the "powers-that-be" look at two seaters?

And the other 50%? (Excluding you and me, of course.)

We'll just tell the hipsters, "no more fixies for you" and boom, another army.

Hasek 01-17-09 03:49 PM

Of course this is a make believe situation, so I'd keep the 2009 Surly, 1986 Miyata, and the 1995ish Giant. Then I'd immediately go to my co-op and spend my volunteer credits on the cheapest bikes they have to put myself farther beyond the 2 bikes to let them know F.U. :D

Amani576 01-17-09 04:00 PM

I only have two bikes... :(

gnome 01-17-09 04:49 PM

Thankfully I don't live in America so I'm fine.:D

If I had to keep only two it would be: my 1979 Mercian and my full suspension recumbent fitted with racks and dynohub lighting system.

USAZorro 01-17-09 05:17 PM

They'll have to pry my lugged steel frames from my cold, dead fingers.

+1000000 rounds of ammo. Or old Shimano Biopace chainrings, maybe I could use them as throwing stars.

The unfortunate part of this is I would probably keep the Serotta and the Eisentraut, both of which are racers, but the Serotta is more comfortable on the long haul, and the Eisentraut is the most nimble bike I own. This would leave me short a utility bike, although I am working on top secret project which would serve as a utility bike and may-- just may-- be in the class of those two.

I would probably also hang the 1967 PX on the wall and claim it is art, not a bicycle, when the Walmart bike police come around.

USAZorro 01-17-09 05:26 PM

I'll keep my Raleigh, and my Trek (course I have five Raleighs and three Treks :p)

High Fist Shin 01-17-09 05:32 PM

This thread is worthless without pics. ;)

These two:

At least until the Univega is finished. Then I would have a problem.

YoKev 01-17-09 05:36 PM

1) Dean Colonel mountain bike
2) Woodrup Giro? road bike

Number 1 is a no brainer...number two was a little trickier. I just measured, and I am pretty sure I could put some larger tires (perhaps 700x35) in my Woodrup, as well as fenders.

The other 50%? 48% almost ready to join the previous 50%, 1% gleefully riding at 30 mph downhill on an MUP, blissfully unaware of the fact that they've rammed 25 pedestrians in the last 40 seconds, and the last 1% sitting on the sidelines, letting the original extremists get their necks wrung.

Watch it - some messenger might try it and sue the crap out of you when he (rightfully) lands in the clink.

I like the way you think. My first thought was to hide my Raleigh folder under the bed and/or claim it was a toy. After that, I don't know. I mostly only use two, the Raleigh 5 speed cruiser and my 1985 BRC touring bike. But The Boy would probably want to hang onto his 1992 ProFlex mountain bike even though he has ridden a grand total of 5 km on it in 4 years....

Rabid Koala 01-17-09 06:28 PM

They'll get my bikes when they pry them from my cold, dead hands.......

When bikes are outlawed, only outlaws will have bikes.....

But hypothetically speaking, I'd keep the two chrome Paramounts.
