Is a Centurion Accordo frame



better than a Raleigh Marathon frame?



Just curious. The Accordo has been on CL for a while, offered for a little less each time. If it would be an upgrade over my Marathon (which I know to be only a so-so frame), I might be able to talk the Accordo down a little more (or just wait him out).

The Raliegh is fine. I would keep the Raleigh.

That Centurion has been on hanging around for awhile. Just how tall are you? Isn't it for some one who is around 6'3"?

I'm 6'-2". It states 34 inch inseam which is fine for me.

If he would put drop bars on that bike he woulda sold it by now... for probably $75. With those Stingray bars it just looks like a geek of a bike.

Yeah, I know that bike has been hanging around for awhile, and like I said, the price seems to come down about $5 every time he posts it. If its frame was comparable to say, the frame on my wrecked Nishiki Olympic 12, I'd drop $30-40 on it, especially since I could sell the Raleigh for more than that.

I searched the net for Accordo stuff and it seems like it's not anything too great, but figured I could ask here for a little more insight.

i'd say the Centurion, Marathon, and Nishiki Olympic are all pretty comparable. They were all mid to lower end "recreation" chromo 80's bikes. Nothing too special, but solid transportation. If your Marathon fits you and has no issues I'd just keep that.

Without weighing them, I have to disagree. The Oly 12 is clearly lighter than the Marathon. Also, the Marathon came with Suntour 7 in the front and HR in the rear, both of which are below the aRX components on the Oly 12 (although they work fine). Other than that, the Marathon is a pretty nice bike.

If the Accordo was clearly a cut above I might have gone for it, but it's on the other side of the metro area.

not sure which part you're disagreeing on, but all three are indeed in the middle quality range for their respective years. The Nishiki might be slightly lighter than the Marathon, but as stated all three bikes are pretty comparable in quality.

I'm not trying to "dis" your bikes, I was just trying to make the point that I don't think it would be worth the time to swap parts over from one to the other because in the end you'd basically end up with the same bike. Unless of yource you just want more bikes, which is completely understandable

Buy that Centurion just to get it off Craigslist. I'm tired of seeing it.

(Edit: I've got some nifty aluminum handlebars that I have no use for- drop bars.)

If it were me, I would pick up the Accordo, swap the bars and clean it up and either keep it as a cheap spare ride or flip it. That seems like a pretty good price.

I would agree that it is in the same ballpark as the Raleigh and not worth the trouble to swap over parts.

I would buy the Centurion, put on drop bars and flip it. If for no other reason than that bike deserves better!!

Ha! I've been watching that one, too. It would fit me. As the price drops, it becomes more tempting as a beater bike or to flip in the Spring after swapping to drop bars. The frame isn't that nice, although. Guess of I've become a snob.

I had forgotten about Doohickie's wrecked Nishiki. It might be worth getting it for the frame if it the price continues to drop and move your Oly parts over to it.

At any rate, some one PLEASE buy it so it stops popping up ever couple of days, lol.

I'm a biased Centurion fan. I would go maybe $25 on that particular Accordo.
I kind of like your Marathon as is. And I think the Nishiki was a nicer bike.

If you don't buy the Accordo, you can leave it on CL and I'll know it's irritating Tony.
