Compax bike
Hi All,
Been lurking for some time. I was just given a cool old bike, a 1942 Westfield (Columbia) Compax Sport Traveler made in 1942. The bike is Black with the head badge and top only tube painted logo, no seat tube logos, both original wing nuts intact. A lot of rust and pits over where the chrome was. Frame paint is dinged up and oxidised. I was looking for some information:
Was the chain guard painted or chromed in '42?
Where can I get a Mesinger saddle recovered?
Professional repaint or leave original.
Rechrome or leave it?
Thanks

Great old cycles.
The chainguard would have been painted.
These cycles were used by paratroopers in World War II.
There are some photos of them in our Picture Database and a lot of info on them in our on-line archives.
Oh yeah, don't paint it.
