Colnago Mountain Bikes

Hello

I am really curious about the story (and value) of these Colnago MTB I see surfacing once in a while but haven't been able to find a resource online, or very little info actually.

The first one is a Colnago Maxim? Like the magazine?

The second one looks terrible but note the Colnago seatpost. Could be a fun little grocery getter. Are they actually somewhat sought after...

Help please!

By terrible do you mean completely awesome? What's the thing with the white cable?

Hi

All Colnago MTBs I've seen were of disappointing quality. Most expensive I've got my hands on was an aluminum one with twin down tube. It had the art decor paint like Romingers hour record bike in the book 'Competition Bicycles'. Remember original retail for frame was around 2500 guilders back then (say 1150 euro), what was a lot of money. It had beefy dropout at the tail with the shape/preperation for fender and rack ...only they forgot to drill those holes. Wouldn't expect those dropouts on an expensive performance orientated frame, but in particular not in this way. The paint is no real paint, it is for the purpose decoration in the 1st place, hence 'art decor' is well choosen.

Haven't ridden mine, but I've been told that if I would have it would have been just another disappointment.

The Maxim model I see offered regularly overhere. They don't go fast. Think sellers will be happy with a couple of tenners in the end.

If you're looking for a proper serious Mountainbike with some meaningfull heritage you will do wise looking for something like Brodie, Mountain Goat, Fat Chance, WTB, Grove and a couple others. Colnago MTBs shouldn't be on anyones short list, except for if your are a Colnago collector and would like to complete the collection. My 2cts

Gotcha. Thank you! I have seen some in person occasionally and if I was in love with a paint job I might go for it, but it isn't the case with the two specimens we have here.
