Is your caps lock button stuck?

rotharpunc 03-13-09 04:33 PM

Also, three blurry pictures of your BB won't help much.

iab 03-13-09 04:37 PM

Don't know it.

The next person to offer you $3K, take it, don't be an idiot.

The weird thing is, when ever I try to use caps the forum automatically edits them.

+1 we need better pictures and more details. Drive side pictures, seat cluster, head tube, lugs, drop outs, a listing of components etc.

That is a pretty unique looking cut out in the BB. It looks like your 3000 dollar bike could use a bath.

ITALIAN/INDIAN69 03-13-09 04:45 PM

Are u serious?

This is not the best picture, but the logo is there....if you dont want to help then dont leave smart remarks.....my caps button is on....dont like it...move to another thread to find something wrong with it!!!!! If you do come to this thread....thanks for any info!

Ther cutout looks like the emblem for Lotus, which had most of their bicycles made in Japan by Tsunoda. However, I'm pretty sure Lotus wasn't around in '73. Maybe a Tulip cutout for a Dutch brand? In addition to other questions, what's the thead standard of the bottom bracket?

ITALIAN/INDIAN69 03-13-09 04:48 PM

Be nice, but i dont need the money...the big deal is my dad gave it to me and it does hold a insemental value...

YungBurke 03-13-09 04:50 PM

insemental? Its lucky this isnt the roadie forum - flame city baby.

ok....i do agree....i have not ridden this one in probably 7 years....i will be taking the blue paint back down to the original color which is more of a flat black...all of the cutouts are lined with a whitish color...

Agreed: Lotus...but given the Campy, it may be one of those mysterious Italian-made Lotus(es) from Columbus tubing...more and better pics will help (attitude won't).

Not very sociable for someone shouting for free advise.

If you read any number of threads, you will find the vast majority here are helpful. Courtesy is encouraged.

The fork and stay ends if marked Campagnolo, are just that, Campagnolo ends, they made parts for almost every worthwhile steel frame builder.

Closest I have seen to this is as stated, a Lotus brand bike, primarily a Japanese importer brand. Like the Centurion brand, they sourced a limited run of bikes from Italy for prestige enhancement.
Small chance the origin might be ventured a bit more if you can read the bottom bracket cup threads, 26 x 24 would indicate Italian, 24 x 1.370 would be English, and used also by the Japanese (and Americans often)

lotek 03-13-09 06:04 PM

Greg,
chill out, we try to be as helpful here, its a nice friendly little forum I plan to keep it that way.
One marque that has not been suggested is Somec an italian brand which also used a Tulip for it's logo.
I'm trying to find pictures but can't lay my hands on one at the moment.

dhagger 03-13-09 07:08 PM

I would agree with somec:

"EMBLEM

Two images met Mr. Gallegati's vision of his dream for Somec:
- the tulip, because it is elegant and durable and comes in a vast array of colors
- the cavallino rampante -stallion-which Francesco Baracca, a famous war aviator from Lugo of the late 1800's, had emblazoned on his airplane.
This same horse was given from Baracca's family to Ferrari, and of course is now associated with their prestigious cars.
"

from somec website...

This sounds awfully familiar to me........dude, did you try to sell a Trek on eBay last month?

Looks like a $300 bike to me, if it had original paint, but since it doesn't, I would mark it down from that point. So then its value is really about the components.

Whether I need money or not (and I don't), if someone wants to offer me $3000 for a $300 bike, I take the money and say thank you. I am sure I can find other things to be insemental about.

lotek 03-13-09 07:15 PM

a bit of photo magic ( with picassa ) revealed this:
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_BhJOwX2cq44/Sb...BIKELOGO-1.jpg
which is why I'm thinking Somec.

Something got lost in the translation, I guess. Airplanes (those that flew, anyway) didn't exist before 1903. ;)
