Boulder 550 confusion
Hi good people, wasn't too sure if this belonged here or in the MTB section, but based on the Retro MTb thread and the bike being mid 90's I thought i'd post here.(Mods feel free to move if if required)
OK, so after deciding I wanted a rigid fork hardtail Cro Mo MTB frame to build up a hybrid townie I purchased a Bike on ebay for $20 Australian. The bike is an imported Giant Boulder 550.
I started to do some research and am a little confused. It appears that the spec and components on this bike are a mish mash, even though it appears original.According to bike pedia a 550 is a hi ten clunker frame.
But mine has these decals and looks like this,
The butting of the tubes is visibly evident to,
The frame specs match an iguana with it's butted main frame.
The shimano components are a mix of Altus cranks and FD, with the lower specced acera RD.
The colour is a purpley blue that ties with boulder specs.
my guess is the US versions/models were wider and more varied than the stuff exported to Aus, and mine is a middle of the range amalgam.
Curious to know if any one in the US has one of these or if it's just a uniquely Aussie Boulder.
Cheers Dave
