"Motobecane Grand Tutile" $325

Even if the price was not so high, even if the bike didn't look rusty and beat up, even if it weren't a jumbo size, he would still have trouble selling a bike called a 'Grand Tutile.'

It is of course a Grand Jubilee, which a moment of looking, thinking, or if that was not feasible, googling, would have resolved.

OTOH proper respect to him for spelling 'Motobecane' correctly.

He actually included a photo of the thrift store tag.

one of those lugged early 90s trek frames with mostly 600 and DT shifters for $810 + 70 shipping - thats almost $900! maybe i've been underestimating the value of these bikes!

well it was "custom" (aka built from stuff I had lying around when my buddy gave me the frame) LOL

Old bike. Still works. The gears are a little funny sometimes. water bottle holder broke off of it a long time ago and apparently my solution was to duct tape a drink koozie on.

$35 OBO Pick up

Thanks!

I'm not sure if I'm just misunderstanding this, but it sure seems that the seller is acknowledging the frame is stolen. Even says so in the main title. Also, check out that mangled chain stay which "doesn't affect anything."

1975 Motobecane Grand Record vintage road bike - $800 (Fort Collins)
Date: 2010-07-29, 3:56PM MDT
Reply to: sale-t9vnw-1870486370@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

This is a 1975 Motobecane Grand Record , Red with Gold and black trim including a Rare Gold rear chain-ring. The pictures do not do this rare bike justice, is a great find in excellent condition. Based on the overall condition and wear in the chain-rings i would guess it never saw more than 300 miles and was stored in a clean garage for 35 years. Fully tuned, overhauled and refurbished at the bike shop i work at about 2 weeks ago. I tried to keep it as original as possible but upgraded some cosmetic parts.
I absolutely love how this bike turned out but it is too nice and good looking for commuting to the shop. It deserves to be in the hands of a collector with all its great original condition and unique parts.
Key Original Features
Great paint job - rare red with black and gold hand laid paint
Unique upgraded butted steel features- this bike has the most decorative and elegant butted steel styling offered at the time hand made in France
GOLD REAR Cog- VERY RARE- Has minimal -wear looks amazing with the other colors (I have been offered $100 just for this piece!)
Suntour V-Tluxe rear derailleur
Suntour compe V front derailleur
Campagnolo shifter
Stronglight Cranks
Norman Hubs with Rigida rims and galvanized spokes
Kusuki Win Japanese handlebars

New cosmetic parts include:
Brooks B-17 leather saddle
Red anodized origin8 clip-less pedals with original leather straps
cables and housing
Vintage Italian made Campagnolo shifter
CST Super hp tires,new tubes
New chain
New front and back brake pads
New handlebar tape

INCLUDES replaced parts:
original brake pads (very little wear they just stop slower)
original pedals -surface rust
original shifter
Price is fair at $800 Contact Harlie (989) 400-25XX...more pics available
Okaaaaaay....

Maybe if he put the original Nuovo Record derailleurs back on it'd be worth half that. Maybe even a little more. But original, or fair, it isn't. One would think that a guy who worked in a bike shop would know what a freewheel is called... and maybe if he could read his hubs wouldn't be named "Norman". We seem to get a surprising number of cluelessly dishonest people around here.

I'm not sure I'm getting the "wackiness" here. Aside from it taking a genius to blow up an engine in five days ("you might want to shift out of first gear, ma'am"), it's only slightly overpriced, depending on overall condition, then and now. Genius-level activity or not, you might be surprised how many people manage to completely destroy a car that quickly. Because of what I've seen I don't consider it to be very unusual and an engine change isn't that big a deal - the one in my particular car can be removed in about an hour if you know what you're doing. Perhaps it depends on perspective or perhaps I'm missing something.

Maybe it's been fully suspended on hooks in the garage? Still, not a bad deal at all and a funky paint scheme...

Caught an ad about an hour ago on Craigslist (it's down now) for a 2009 Giant Aeryn...near brand new shape, guy bought it for his daughter to use but only used it a couple times...price? $25.00....and that was a price DROP from the original asking price of $150 because "one of the cranks is stripped." I called as fast as I could but someone got to it before I did, naturally....women's bike or not I would have taken that anyday, that was the best absent-minded deal I've ever seen!

bigwoo 07-31-10 09:18 PM

Holy F'n Numbskull of the Century... I just called this little pr*ck to give him a friendly head's up about how deceptive the ad was, due to catastrophic front end damage and he gave me the biggest line of BS ever about how easy it is to fix the front fork, and how it had never, ever been crashed "Dude, which bike are you calling about? Oh, the classic Italian racing bike.... I'm pretty sure it was made by Masi....I'm the orig owner, stop wasting my time do you want to buy it or not? I don't have time to discuss a bike that's not damaged....The front wheel is supposed to be like that. You don't know about bikes..."

I like how the seller quotes an article about a modern flat bar Treviso but is trying to sell a vintage road bike.

http://denver.craigslist.org/bik/1862532759.html

BIKE PINARELLO Treviso- 22" Racing bike - $889 (Denver)

Bicycling Review

Issue: Apr 2007
EDITORIAL REVIEW
Be the fastest to the espresso bar FLAT FAST: The Treviso lacks the drop handlebar of a traditional road bike, but don't mistake it for a comfort bike or hybrid. It has speedy, high-pressure 700c tires and road gearing, but offers a more upright position for those not wanting the aggressive hunch of a drop bar. MULTIPURPOSE: Sitting upright makes it easier to navigate through traffic, and the flat bar makes steering snappier, so the Treviso makes a superfast city bike with plenty of Italian style.
