Thanks! Never heard of Kalkhoff, and had to look it up. They're still making bikes. I love learning this kind of trivia.

The only reason I became familiar with the company was that we had a couple of "ID this mystery bike" type threads in last two years or so which turned out to be from this maker.

In the U.S. they are typically only seen in what was formerly called "The German Triangle", i.e where German immigrants of the 19th century tended to settle.

They are one of those marques with a subtitle/slogan. Just as Sekine likes to refer to itself as "The World's Finest Bicycle" Kalkhoff calls itself "The Red Dot Bicycle."

Here is a ~1972 example in all its glory which has been on U.S. ebay for some time:

Ran across this Kalkhoff in a 1970's era German mailorder clothing catalogue the other day:

Six photos. Four of the yard he needs to clean up and two of the handlebars. Pictures showing the whole bike...zero.

!!!!! Good deal cheap titanium frame lightweight 25 speed - $290 (Se Salem)

#1 Obviously not titanium, probably says somewhere on the frame if the seller looked.
#2 Obviously not a 25 speed because thats not a thing.
#3 Over priced.
#4 Hobo bars.

Correction, 1 pic of the handlebars, and 1 pic of the yard, including the seat and the top of the rear wheel. The yard pic is presented 4 times vs the handlebars only 2, because wheels are twice as important as handlebars.

Besides, cut him some slack, it's tough to take a steady picture when you're saling on a boat.

Aluminum is practically the same as titanium, because, um.

It's a fourteen speed. Maybe he added an 11 speed, yeah, that's the ticket.

Overpriced? That's only $41 more than the clearance price for this rare classic

Caveat Emptor, indeed.

CliffordK 07-28-16 03:20 PM

Doesn't titanium colored paint count?

You must not have read my post about my 5 x 5 project. It's about the only thing you can do with a rear 120 mm OLD.

I have noticed that I am getting a bit bow-legged on my right side.

Only $10!

Local CL ad, it's nice to see they put so much effort into getting a good picture. They'd have to pay me $10 just to dig them out. At least the description is correct, they HAVE seen better days.

58cm Vintage Nishiki International Bicycle Frame and Fork

This is a very nice looking bike frame built of quality materials and built up rides very nicely.

I am measuring it to be about a 58cm seat tube as well as a 58cm top tube.

...

It rode super as most vintage steel bikes do that are built with good quality steel tubing
and this one is no exception.

An online search indicates Nishiki's are well respected vintage lugged steel bikes
and from what I found the International was one of the upper models in their line.

Over all paint and decals are pretty good but there a few scratches to the paint.
The Champion @ tubing decal up top is messed up due to a top tube mounted pump.
They can be bought on ebay if a replacement is desired.

Please note in picture there is a cosmetic only ding down near the bottom bracket area.
Once built up I really did not notice it.

Uh, is that really cosmetic only?

There's something about the photo of that ad that made me laugh out loud when I checked it out:
http://images.craigslist.org/00f0f_j...AE_600x450.jpg

At least the photo is from the drive side. It's also noted to be a 'male bike' which is important in these gender confused days.

That's an odd spot for a pretty good dent to occur. Allen key slipped from chainring bolt and smashed into the tube, maybe?

Suckers

I don't know much about bikes story here is I was at the casino friend of mine and I were approached by a gentleman you obviously wanted to gamble more than he wanted his bike and he offered us the bike for $100.oo and so we took it with the understanding with understanding that would be able to increase prophet seeing how the bike was over 300 but we haven't exactly been able to do that so at this point we just like to at least get our money back and a few dollars towards what we have done to it and the time we have had it

Hopefully the bike isn't stolen

Not a single side photo showing the whole bike? It sounds like the current owners are just as big of gamblers as the previous owner. Thinking they could flip a $100 bike for $300 without doing any work on it? Or even taking care to advertise.

That bike looks pretty nicely cleaned up. Tires look good for a distance. Was it shiny when you gave it away? Price is within reason. But, one always hopes to give stuff to someone that is needy, not just flipping a quick buck. Of course, that is what the local co-op does too.
