A lot of the time when a frame has been cut it is because someone rightly deemed the frame was not safely repairable and cut the frame to prevent someone from trying to fix build it up. We did this some on frames at a bike coop because if we didn't people would pull the nicer looking frames out of the scrap pile and try to build them up.

I kept pictures of this Ascent, it is reminiscent of the paint jobs of some Japanese bikes cerca 1990 but the paint job itself is nauseating to me. That said, it might not have been a bad bike. It seems to look cheap but what kind of tubing does it have? Chromalite! Anyway, I already found out a bit about this bicycle. 2 sets of eyelets it looks like front and back and Japanese made apparently. London for Ontario, the person who told me that does come to this forum.

The idiotic things people do to bikes sometimes never ceases to amaze me..
Yesterday I saw a bike listed that had "miner" damage and I immediately envisioned someone emerged from a coal mine and hit it with a pick! Or maybe a miner rode it to work, hit a pothole and fell off because if he got hurt, that would also be miner damage. And let’s not forget those wonderful ads with statements like, “I don’t have time for a lot of questions so don’t ask,” and “no lowballs I know what this is worth” from someone trying to sell a rusted Varsity for $400!” |

At least the price isn't outrageous. I wonder about why this would ever need to be shipped, though. |
Kijiji can be a place for ridiculousness too.
I often see FIORI advertised as vintage Italian. Right now in Toronto Canada there's a FIORI MODENA that the owner says was between $800.00 and $1500.00 new. It now sports riser mtb bars. So many bikes are so over priced that I wonder if the sellers are on dope or something? Late 70,s - FIORI Modena Road Bike | road | City of Toronto | Kijiji heers |
I think that this one has been on CL for over three years now. The price has dropped by $125 or so since I noticed it - but it is still missing a shifter.

CL is fun to watch even if you're not buying a bike. All categories are rife with misspellings, no punctuation marks and run-on sentences that can only be translated by an Enigma Machine, unbelievably pathetic photos, ridiculous prices and statements, and more wtf moments that you can find anywhere else for free! :)

Have you ever been hovering over the thumbnails and you're not sure whether it's a fatbike or a fixie with a flat bar and black deep rims?

idiot description says: great bike, and great parts. Look the pictures. Bike http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=496667 Happy first post to me Have you contacted the seller? I'm guessing around 1996 or so. The frame is small, but also appears to be longer than expected, although it could be an illusion due to the toptube and downtube curvature. What is the writing on the side of the headtube? Putting a value on something so grossly obsolete, but full of character is tough. You also have a good match between front and rear wheels, but one is predominantly silver, while the other is predominantly black, and they probably aren't the original set. I don't bargain a lot on Craigslist, but that is one that you might get the seller to come down a few hundred. |
Nah, just a practical joker.

Nah I am not really interested in buying it (certainly not at that price). Figured from the ad that contacting the seller was a waste of time. But would like to know more about the bike.

This just in from Craigslist in the Atlanta area. I'm strongly considering this one, but I think I might hold out until I can find a bike with a little moar JPEG.
The seller also mentions his or her Cervelo, the expense of which is presumably why they cannot afford a camera. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=496705http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=496706http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=496707http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=496708 |

What is going on here? I can't figure out the purpose of that weird stem-to-fork attachment, nor why the fork is backwards, nor why the price is so high...

I found this ad rather poignant, in that it tells a little story: Something went wrong with this little WalMart bike's coaster brake, someone thought it was worth trying to fix, someone failed, someone thought someone else would want to take on the project and pay $15 for the privilege. :(
