Are all U Brakes the same???

I am considering building up a do everthing bike from a Mid 80's Scott mtb. It has the brakes mounted to the bottom off the chainstays. U-brakes. Can anyone here tell me if the pivots are the same for these as for the ubrakes used on BMX bikes? In other words , can I use newer BMX brakes if this becomes necessary???

Thanks
