I did not have a channel lock or pliers that were big enough so I used a c-clamp

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

Park used to make a special tool for removing Schwinn kickstands; perhaps your LBS has one?

Easy enough to do this way. Good to clean it up with a solvent (eg wd-40) first. You want the little pin to slip--or preferably, drop--right out when you compress the collar into the bracket (usually both of your hands are busy trying to compress the collar, so it's nice if the pin drops out... but that can't happen if it's caked with grease).
