Thanks for the lightened photo, it confirms my suspicion. They appear to have mitered the seat tube to the downtube, which is fine. Some people like to miter the downtube to the seat tube because the seat tube takes more stress. When I said the tube is square, other than the miter with the down tube, the seat tube end seems to be cut square to the tube and not mitered to the inside of the BB. It's still better than a lot of bikes of this era, not up to today's standards.

Interesting. Might I ask what the hazards are of performing the latter?

Answers my question (two of them, as a matter of fact; I did not know what the generally accepted term was for the practice). I'll spare you a photo of my Superior's BB, which was cut square on every single tube.

Might I ask what "today's standards" are? I assume it would involve about the same as the '61, but with a seattube fit and mitered directly up to the shell's inner diameter extremity, correct?

Take care,

-Kurt

Are you sure it was a Stronglight Comp.? Everybody short of Nevars' mother-in-law copied that design. I've seen some rather close copies that were not the original Stronglight Competitions either - I nearly went with one when I did the build.

Niice job, Kurt. But now Pastor Bob has gotten me anxious- I want to see his barnyard of Schwinns too!

I've never ridden a Paramount, nor seen one in my size (unless EastHill has one, I don't remember), but one of these days I want to try one and see what all the fuss is about.

Very nice. Makes me think of an old gentleman with tattered clothes but impeccable manners. Now please tell me those are leather toe straps. And about that water bottle...

The before images made me want to cry, but you restored my good cheer with what you have done with that beautiful bike.

I am sorry to say that the straps are nylon, though they are quite stiff from age, and have served me unusually well. Soon as one breaks, I'll replace the pair with creme MKS straps (to match the fenders and bar tape, of course).

One of my long-term plans for it are a pair of V-O bottle cages and a complimentary set of Kleen Kanteen stainless bottles for it.

-Kurt

P.S.: Had some fun taking photos of the trio yesterday:

Kurt,

Can we call you "Mr. Schwinnterpull?" Also, you sort of have the Trinity thing going on there. I'd say it is obvious which is which: '61 = Father, '81 = Son, and of course the '71 has to be the Holy Ghost! (so much for my theology analogy)

Banjo Mole, I don't have a barn. The Continental came out of Barney's Barn. It sat next to his blue Ford Model T. Barney was a member of my church. He gave me the bike about 6 months before he died.
