At probably my favorite garage sale ever, I got a brand new park repair stand for $35 and the guy was giving this bike away for free. It sat in my basement for a few months and I decided I didn't have time to work on it with other projects and things I have going. It's pretty dirty and badly needs a tune-up, but I got $75 for it.

Paid $50 for each.

I recently decided to start over from scratch and zeroed out my spread sheet. I'm $170 in the black after 2 bikes!!!!

You'd have got $125 for that Fuji, from the right buyer. It was clean! That's the kind of bike I would keep, and over improve component wise.,,,,BD

I might have been able to get more for it, but it needed a fair amount of work to be rideable and I didn't pay anything for it so I'm happy with the $75. It's also too big for me so I wasn't even tempted to keep it.

The bicycle at a Kentucky yard sale had two flat tires, broken pedals and carried a $5 price tag. That didn't stop Greg Estes from buying the bike in hopes of flipping it for a small profit. He should get his wish, to the tune of a few thousand dollars.
It turns out the broken-down bicycle was originally owned by Floyd Landis, who rode it in a race in 2007. The bike was built especially for Landis, complete with custom pedals that look foreign to those unfamiliar with professional cycling (hence the original seller's belief that the pedals were broken). It retailed for $8,000.
Landis rode the bike in a mountain-bike race one year after winning the Tour de France. That title, of course, was later stripped after the American cyclist tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Landis is currently banned from the sport, but has stayed in the spotlight with his accusations against Lance Armstrong and other athletes.
Estes told the Owenton News-Herald that the bike was found abandoned on an interstate and nobody ever reported it lost or stolen. He says he'll return the bike if someone claims it. For now though, authorities say it belongs to him.
I can understand someone thinking the bike wasn't worth a few thousand dollars. After all, how many abandoned bikes are custom-built jobs for Tour de France winners? But five dollars? That seems a little low. If I were having a yard sale I'd have probably put a $5 tag on the bike's water bottle. Even if the bike were an actual piece of junk, wouldn't, say, $25 be a more appropriate asking price?

Last winter I found a Fuji Absolute behind a Salvation Army store with no tires, so inquired within and they sold it to me for $5. I invested tires and tubes, cleaned it up and flipped it for $165. It was a 63cm and I had quite a bit of interest despite the lesser crankset. I did deliver it an hour one way but sold another one on the same trip in the same area.

This is my latest "flip", a 1970 Raleigh Twenty. I bought a pair of these from a local CL seller for $100 for both. My plan was to flip the one that was least desireable,
keeping the other for my collection. I basically rebuilt the Twenty, the only parts needed were new inner tubes and cables. Tolal cost of parts was less than $12.oo.
I place the finished bike on e-Bay, hoping to get $150; winning bid was $202.50 giving me a profit of $140.50.

Bought for $25 sold for $100. I repacked the BB, adjusted the brakes and shifters.

Another free one that I sold. General "Campus". 26x1-3/8 tires on a 10 speed, 51cm. Odd bike.

What do you guys think: I'm building a fixed gear to flip, should I invest in a set of deep V wheels on velocity hubs?

Otherwise, I could make it SS with a set of old 27" wheels I have sitting around.

Paid $45 and stored it for 4 months.
Did absolutely no work or cleanup to the bike.
Responded to an ad where someone was looking for a tandem.
Sold for $180.

I bought a sound, but really dirty pink miele for 80$ and sold it for 240$ after a judicious clean-up. I threw in an new pair of 700x23 tires, brand new that were a gift that I'd never have used. My first flip too, and I feel so dirty but it's a good kind of dirty.

Bought this Takara earlier this summer for $40. I really liked it but it was too small for me. Only spent about $10 overhauling it so $50 total cost. Sold it for $175

Thank you noglider. I'm do Publications layout and web design/IT work at our State High School Activities Association. I'm just an all-around geek I guess and get into my hobbies way too much, haha. I try to do the best work I can and have been proud of what I've learned. I still feel like I'm pretty slow though in terms of turnaround time.

Yes, the Takara had very nice Ukai aluminum rims. I wish it would have been my size. I would have kept it. Really nice and smooth riding bike.
