Shipping help in Detroit area (Commerce Twp.)

There's a bike in Commerce Twp (suburb of Detroit I assume?) I'd like to purchase. I have contacted the seller, but not heard back yet. If anyone in the immediate area is willing and able to help act as my liaison and ship it, I'm willing to compensate you for your time.

I donno. I go to Detroit (Warren just north of the city) on business and it looks like one of the
more bike unfriendly places around. Wide roads with fast moving cars. Maybe that has something
to do with low interest here?

I think with the recent economic woes that they closed Detroit.

There do seem to be a fair number of good deals out of Detroit. I think people are hurting and turning stuff into cash.

$100 if you pack (well) and ship it to me (not including shipping costs). You can keep the wheels, too, as it will reduce the price of shipping.

I still haven't heard back from the seller (of course, some people work ) so I think my only chance is to find someone here who can actually get to the seller first.

Well, it looks like I've got someone ready to assist. I was thinking, if too many of you get involved and show interest, the seller might reconsider the offer price.

Can't you contact the seller's LBS and get them to pack and ship. I did this with a bike in Arizona.

...only if the seller is interested in bring the bike somewhere. For many folks the allure of Craigslist is that they can make the post and not have to do anything at all with the bike except watch it go out the door.

Yeah, I figure the seller won't be very motivated to go through the hassle for $100. Of course, I could have offered the extra $100 directly to the seller.

But the added incentive of having a knowledgeable BF'er do it is 1) superior packaging, and 2) someone to act as a trusted liaison between the seller and I. I've had bikes sent to me 'professionally packaged' - and at a premium price - that arrived with damage because of poor packing. A BF'er would also be likely to spot any serious frame damage before closing the deal.
