Is this a PX10 frame?

I assumed it was, but then again I don't know Squat when it comes to Peugeots.

I'm tempted to say that it is a PA-10 - no chrome stays.

Hot damn. It's a 531 peugeot, and at that price it's a crazy good deal.

Buy it now, worry about the model later!

I bought first and am asking questions later, plus it's local. I figured I was due for a gamble, too bad there is not a fork....

It's either a PA10 or a PR10. Either way, it's had a sticker upgrade. The diagonal 531 sticker means the entire frame and fork are DB 531. The PR10 is 531 in the 3 main tubes and the PA10 is not 531.

You can get a replacement fork with BSC threads and you won't have to find a French headset. Dupli Color white acrylic enamel wheel paint is a good match for the color. The correct decals are on eBay. The bottom bracket is French.

From the seatpost diameter, it is extremely easy to tell a PA-10, with its gaspipe UO-8 plain gauge carbon steel tubing, from a PR-10, which is a PX-10 double butted Reynolds 531 main triangle ("3 tubes renforces") with plain carbon steel forks and stays. The PR-10 and PX-10 take a 26.4mm seatpost, whereas the UO-8 and PA-10 take a smaller-diameter post with a thin steel shim.

Well, he does have parts for sale that appear to have been stripped from the frame. He has a stronglight 93 crankset which seems to be better than PA-10 equipment.

A PA10 would have had a cottered crank with Simplex rings. A PR10 would have had a Stronglight 93, so it looks like you got the better one.

A PA10 takes a 25.4 seatpost with no shim.

That is hopefully good news, you were making me nervous! So what can anyone tell me about the PR-10?

The PR10 would have been equipped with the Stronglight 49D crankset thru 1976. The bike in question is 1974 or earlier. The model 93 cranks sold separately could have been removed from the OP's bike but they were not OE. As previously mentioned the Reynolds decal is incorrect. This Peugeot could still be a PA10.

This is what a 1974 PA10 frame looks like:

It originally had a crankset like this, but with two rings. It was a fixie for a while.

I don't think yours has these lugs.

My PA10 with tubulars is lighter than my PX10 with clinchers.

Thanks for the pictures dirtdrop. I am glad I am going to pick this up in person, that will give me a chance to look for frame damage that may not have been mentioned.

I was thinking about the main tubes, if they are double butted I should be able to tap them with a coin and get a different sound from end to middle, correct?

What gave away the sticker upgrade? The lack of chrome stays?

Update.. dirtdrop replied via a PM:

"A PX10 of that era would certainly have half chrome stays. The sticker with '531' only appears on a PX10. It means that the entire frame and fork is 531. The PR10 has a sticker with 531 written horizontally. Only the main tubes are 531."

Thread bump, because never leave a story unfinished if you can complete it.

mkeller and I met up halfway between our respective homes last summer and swapped a bunch of parts. I went home with the mystery Peugeot, I firmly believe, due to the seatpost size that it is a PR10.

Many forum members helped me gather the components to put the bike back together over the last year, I just finished it up today.

Thanks to mkeller234,redxj,old fat guy, and bigbossman for parts support on this one!

Wow, that looks great! Thanks for updating the thread with your picture, really happy to see this. Next time we meet up you get the sweet NOS white Bluemels.

This frame came from the same seller that I just bought the ebay mystery frame from.

It looks great! I that a Simplex SX610 rear derailer? The decals and the placement of the 531 stiker on the downtube make it a '74 in case you didn't know.

Thanks! It has some serious patina in person, but it's all honest patina.

It is an SX610, off my PH10L, which happily I was able to replace with another one from a forum member.

I thought it was a '74, thanks for the confirmation!

I have about 10 miles on it now, and after spending the entire summer on somewhat stoic 70's Raleighs the tight geometry of the Peugeot is an eye opener.

Gorgeous beautiful bike redneckwes!

PS - I suspect this may have been what Eve used to tempt Adam. ("Ain't fallin' for no crazy apple, but that PR10 Peugeot, well that's another thing" He said. ...Eve knew what she was doing.)
