looking for a head set

I have a very limited Kestrel frame, vintage 90' with a threadless fork tube and I need a brushed Alu finish head set. If I could find one like my old American Classic, I would get it, but then it would not fit a treadless tube. The older Classic was high and had a brushed finish.

Where to go?

Vintage '09?

Is that like boxed wine? Yum, November, my favorite.

I question this. Have you tried it? I was thinking the 'brush' finish from a wheel would not look right??

I'd look for a lower end Richey threadless 1" in alloy, or like the other poster said, alloy and some 000 steel wool and go from there. I didn't even know they had threadless in 1990, but I was not paying much attention then.

Ok guys, giving me garbage ha . Well the frame was 1 of 25 made to commemorate the dominance of Kestrel in the Hawaii Triathlons. Made in 03’ I believe and yes they put a treadles fork on it. I do not believe they had threadless back in the old days either , but i have one.

SO GIVE ME SOME GOOD IDEAS

Anybody try the steel wool on the Alu thing? I have shinned up Alu parts for a Mex finish, but I have not gone the other way .

If you want to see a photo, you will have to go to 'Yellow Jersey' web. I am not up on inserting photos yet. Seems he has the photo locked. But that is the one I bought.

Speaking of giving you garbage, is the frame limited, and if so, in what way? Heh heh.

I've not intentionally made anything look like brushed aluminum. Unintentiionally, the wire brush on the Dremel tool seems to be made for it.

Sorry, that website is poorly organized and I can't find your bike there.

I have done the "brushed finish" using a couple different approaches with varied success, but have never tried doing it to a Chris King HS, and I'd recommend you experiment on something cheaper like the Ritchey to see if you can get results you like.

I see what you mean.

You might want to choose the other components and get the headset to match.

I did notice that there is a Chris King titanium headset. It's expensive, but it might be worth it for that frame.

Well, I am going to head set it and then frame it for the wall. A giant shadow box frame. Not going to build this one. It will go the way of one Hetchens, Paramont & Colnago. House art for now.
