Year of manufacture

I have come across a BSA Waverley - serial no. P9863.
Does anyone know how I can date it?

I owned my BSA 1970 441 Victor Special from 1978 to 2013. Sold it back to the guy who bought it new. Gave him back the original owner's manual and the receipt from the original purchase. Around $900 with a helmet and insurance. My brother was the second owner, and I was the third.

This Summer just past, I passed on an old BSA roadster. The seller at the yard sale said I could have it for five bucks. I almost went for it, just for the lovely cottered crank set. Needless to say, I don't have any pictures to support my claim but I do regret not buying it now. I have found some extra storage space - a local bike shop that likes to display my vintage bicycles.

N+1 is, once again, active in randyjawaland:-)

Woot! Do they give you some sort of discount? What's your bike count right now?

No discounts here. I just hut for vintage bicycles the old fashioned way. I actually go into the field and hunt, rather than sit staring at Craigslits or Kijiji, hoping that a good deal will present itself. And lots of great deals are presented...

How many bikes do I have now? Six plus my 1982 Bianchi Touring(my Jamaica bike). It took me a while to learn that having a lot of bikes (180+ at one time) is foolish. Now, I have one rider (my steel and carbon fiber Cyclops), two counting the Jamaica bike, and the rest are wall art, for a total of seven bikes.

Oh, ya - forgot about next Summer's build project - a late sixties or early seventies Le Jeune. And, of course, what ever I find next!-)

Here are a couple of curiosities I found while browsing the belongings of Canadian Olympic cyclist Glen Robbins. While it appears he rode a CCM at the '32 LA games, he also rode a BSA competively and this ledger entry shows how he sold his English Colonial bike to buy a BSA (model unknown). I don't know the significance of his BSA banner but it is a cool little item.
