Show me your BSA...
 

I happened upon a very old ladies BSA coaster bike today and have been trying to find info and pics and any information I can glean to date the bike.

This is the bike's saddle... I will pick up the bike Monday and bring a rideable saddle with me as this one will need some TLC before it feels anyone's bottom.

Anyways... saw a little note on a blog about BSA not producing 28 inch wheeled bicycles after 1931 and was wondering if this was indeed true.

If so, I might have a bike that would fill in the gap I have for a 1920's bike and perhaps have a new "oldest bike".

It is in fabulous condition.

I can't believe no-one here has a BSA... I would really like to see some lady's bikes.

I did find some pretty good links to some Flick'r sets that show a lot of BSA models but no-one seems all that interested in women's bikes.

BSA Paratrooper bikes on the other hand... wow.

I've got a few rifles, a couple of Lightnings and a Firebird. All manly and pedal-less.

There seem to be more gun and motorcycle collectors than bicycle collectors out there and in that, the amount for information seems to be staggering.

It's a late 60's Mens frame 10-speed, Huret equipped.

I can't wait until tomorrow...

That is beautiful.

Sadly... it appears "my" new old bike got sold out from under me and was quite similar to this one except it was much much older as although it was a looped frame, the loops were joined midway down.

I will keep looking as it's not for me but rather, a very special lady.

Those BSA's are nice! I like that blue frame.

Aren't they great?
For me the best Raleighs were produced in the late 60s.
Chrome and paint was excellent, but deteriorated later, towards the end.
Old fashioned then, but now well regarded.
And rightly so.

Yes. My 1971 frame seems to be from approximately the last year of high quality builds. Thereafter, they rode well, but the workmanship was sloppy.

I am the proud owner of 2, in different Hemisheres of Planet Earth.

I own an old approx 1920s 28" BSA in NZ, and have just bought a 60s-ish BSA on ebay in London, ready for me to use during my upcoming year in UK.

Also, my first bike was a 3/4 frame 26" BSA StarFlyer, and I owned a fantastic BSA Majestic Featherweight .308 rifle - primo. If you ever see one, buy it.

Nice BSA's everyone. Maybe I need to add a BSA to my collection?:rolleyes: The closest I have is an old roadster with Royal Duke transfers and a BSA chainring.

Fuzzbox, compatriot, we go off on a tangent, but talking of other bikes with BSA chainrings, I came across this great little website just 2 nights ago.
It details the Bastide, a French bike around the Great War, which was the first to move away from a separate, bolted seat stay to the modern practice of brazed. It used BSA running gear and lugs.
I like the look of it, and it was what I was aiming for with by old BSA do-up, although I didn't see this until after I had finished.

After several months on and off I've just finished cleaning, restoring, swapping components and getting all the mechanics in order on my first vintage bike;
Today I went for a nice enjoyable ride.. fantastic fun.

I had a BSA pellet rifle-or maybe it was just the scope??
I almost bought a BSA MC once -but then I came to my senses.I like to tinker with my MC, but I occasionally like to actually ride it also.

Sorry, no BSA. I had a Norton Commando, then a Triumph Tiger 750. I always wanted to try a BSA though, until I talked to a guy who tried to ride his year-round; he had to settle for riding in between breakdowns.

oh...bicycles. Sorry.

BSA took over New Hudson around 1951 and this New Hudson has BSA 3 speed hub/trigger, chain-wheel, lamp bracket etc.

BSA trigger was a Sturmey Archer made under license by BSA.

Hub is also Sturmey Archer X type made under license from SA.
Hub had to come out because the rims were shot and it is now running an SA FG with dynos both ends!
