I'm suprised no one has mentioned Pearls Before Swine yet, it's one of my favorites.

Maynard G. Krebs out for a bike ride? Those cars in the background look like 1940's models. Is this the first beatnik?

Re: comic strips, I can't believe no one has mentioned Calvin and Hobbs yet. Not only was the strip simultaneously funny and poignant, but it was drawn beautifully by a fellow cyclist who peppered it with cycling material. There were the pro-bike strips focusing on Calvins dad (which Author Bill Watterson wrote about in The Calvin and Hobbs Tenth Anniversary Book; "I enjoy cycling, so I occasionally do some bike strips. Other cyclists seem to enjoy them, so its tempting to do more of them, but bike strips risk being self indulgent. A lot of cartoonists do golf strips and I find those insufferable. when I do a bike stip. I always try to focus on Calvins dad's personality so it's not just a joke for particular hobbyists.")

I think that we all can identify with this one : ) -

Then there was calvin's realtionship with his own bike which seemed to represent fear getting the best of him -

I'm a huge fan of Yehuda, Funky Winkerbean and Crankshaft too. The last two I think are just obligatory for any Clevelander though like Yehuda for Cleveland cyclists.

I like the placement of the brake levers.

Wow, I did not know as cyclist we had such a reputation. Then this joke might be about instead of pilots & Texans:

"How do you know there is a cyclist at the party?"

"OH, don't worry they will tell you."

Indeed we do. There are guys out there working very hard to "earn" it for us too.

One of the best Calvin and Hobbes series were the ones where Calvin took up serious gum chewing and subscribed to Chewing magazine. The Chewing mag and that series of strips was a brutal ice-pick attack on Buycycling magazine and the idiot subculture it was trying to promote.
