"Mid-Reach" 600 front caliper?
My Proctor-Townsend fixed gear is pretty sweet, but I've got a bit of an issue with the front brake. The reach is just slightly (approx. 4mm) too short on any brake that I have, all of which are the 39mm-49mm "Short-reach" variety. I'm not really into grinding out the pad slot, I don't know where to get a drop bolt but I'd really like to use my '80's 600 set (BR-6208) as they'll match the rest of the kit on the bike.
My question is, was there a "Mid-reach" version of this front brake? Anyone know where to get one (besides ebay of course)?

Yes, there was. It's the same model number as what you have, except the longer reach is cast or etched into the back of the caliper. I have a set on my Trek 610 (the 6207 not the 6208). Tektro has this medium reach size in their catalog, too. You have to have or deal with the proper holes for recessed fixing nuts, the Tektro's are not availalble with longer bolts and hex-head nuts.

As far as I know, the single-pivot 600 tricolor will not reach.
I've successfully swapped 27's for 700c's with the double-pivot 600 (tricolors) and the 600 EX's, which came out on my 1984 and 1986 bikes.
I never measured the reach, just stuck the wheels on and they worked or didn't. Hope this helps.

I can't say for sure about the tricolor, but the silver 6207 is in two sizes. I have both.

The frame and fork are definitely 700c dedicated, with recessed mounting. The fork seems to have just a little more reach than many; I've tried my 105 (2006 model year) and 600 trocolour dual pivots, they don't reach. Makes sense as I'm pretty sure they're only 49mm reach max. I've tried my Dura-Ace EX (7200) calipers, they don't reach. Measuring from the center of the mounting bolt to the middle of the rim surface gives a reach measurement of 54mm, so that explains why all my short reach calipers don't quite do it.
The one I'm trying to match is not the tricolour, but the second version of the 600 EX brake, like this one (from Velobase):
The BR-6207 ( BR 6207 on Velobase ) would be an decent match as well, if anyone has one the want to sell/trade away (nudge nudge Road Fan ).
I'll leave that for PM's I guess, just let me know! I've got quite the collection of random bike items just waiting to be traded away!

Tashi, my brakes are in use, and are nutted. Do you need nutted or recessed? I may be upgrading the brakes for dual-pivot, but I haven't decided what I'll do to adapt the recessed brake to a nutted frame.
The one MnHPV is showing is just like mine.
Robbie, these brakes predated the tricolor decoration by a few years.

I see no reason why that nutted brake won't work on your bike. The fork drilling on the brake side is the same as for a recessed brake. The drilling on the other side of the fork crown is larger to accept the recessed nut, and it is stepped. If you could find or make a bushing to fit around the brake mounting bold but inside the recessed hole, the nutted brake should fit and be supported well.
I'd start by shopping hobby shops and the McMaster-Carr catalog to see what's available. Second step (well, maybe this should be first)is to measure the brake bolt and the recessed hole to nail down some dimensional requirements for the bushing.
