Bikes: 1 trek, serotta, rih, de Reus, Pogliaghi and finally a Zieleman! and got a DeRosa

Bruce,

I had no intention of asking, her Limited is a 1976 model so I'm guessing it was made by whoever
took over after you left to start Bruce Gordon Cycles.

Bikes: Crap. The box is not big enough...

oh, I'm so gonna say my wife's bike was built by Bruce Gordon. Right vintage. I also have a Roval wheel that has Bruce Gordon written on it in marker...if I collect crap for another 50 years, I could probably have a complete Bruce Gordon, sort of.

Bikes: '39 Hobbs, '58 Marastoni, '73 Italian custom, '75 Wizard, '76 Wilier, '78 Tom Kellogg, '79 Colnago Super, '79 Sachs, '81 Masi Prestige, '82 Cuevas, '83 Picchio Special, '84 Murray-Serotta, '85 Trek 170, '89 Bianchi, '90 Bill Holland, '94 Grandis

Bruce Gorden customs are the 1960's Masis of the future. Dude makes some of the very best bikes OAT.

Bikes: 1970 Holdsworth Mistral, Vitus 979, Colnago Primavera, Corratec Hydracarbon, Massi MegaTeam, 1935 Claud Butler Super Velo, Carrera Virtuoso, Viner, 1953 Claud Butler Silver Jubilee, 1954 Holdsworth Typhoon, 1966 Claud Butler Olympic Road, 1982 Claud

Great to see such a beautiful bike fall into such appreciative ownership. Tragic about the "Drewed" one - why cut the hanger off anyway - it doesn't get in the way of the chain on a fixie conversion, any more than the cable guides do. In my opinion, if you want a track frame, buy one instead!

Back in the 1970's, the Eisentraut was "the" American-made road bike. Guys such as Bruce Gordon are carrying on a tradition of the "hand made" bike in 2009...most of us will never be lucky enough to own one...sigh...

I may not get to own a BG but I do own a handmade American road bike of the same period... a 1971-72ish "Corky" made in New York and beautifully crafted and I'm Canadian!

Yes, indeed, was this ever explained? I've never seen a spacer like that. I've seen steering tubes that were over-sized but they are usually cut to fit, once the headset is installed. What's up with this one?

Bikes: Chesini X-Uno, etc.....

I'm guessing the original owner had the bike custom fit to him. The spacer is probably a result of that.

How so? In what way does a spacer help with fit?

a Kilgore Traut would be by Kurt Vonnegut.

I should probably order a 'traut before they retire.

I like the workmanship on "The Bike Barb's" but did not like the paint.

But with my luck I will only end up getting the t-shirt. "You want it When?!"

Puts the bars higher for someone that wants a more upright position.

So the expander bolt (quill?) is allowed to be inside the spacer?

I'm not sure of the total length of the stem. I didn't have to adjust it as the height is about right for me. I'll take a look over the weekend and see how long it is.

Please do not infer any criticism into my questions, I am just curious. I think this is a great bike.

Decoding Eisentraut serial numbers

Hi, I am in the process of researching an Eisentraut Rainbow to purchase, would you care to disclose what you have learned regarding decoding their serial numbers? Much Obliged!

Indeed, older Davidson bicycles had rainbows incorporated into the logo. These are not closeup pictures by any means but, if you look closely, you can see the rainbow over the D on the head tube of my 1984 Davidson tandem in the pictures below. I guess I should get better pictures of the head tube graphics.

I agree that it's one pretty machine, that's for sure. And I know exactly what you mean when you say you like looking at it every day. There are some bikes in my collection that just make me smile when I look at them. The truly special ones in my collection bring me a ton of joy.

I've found the perfect water bottle for my Eisentraut Rainbow bike. It's a SIMMS fishing aluminum bottle with a Trout graphic on it.
