Any idea what this bike is.

Last night on my way home I was driving down a back rd and a old man had this bike sitting out in his yard for sale. I sat on his front porch with him and he gave me a beer and we talked about old cars for a hour. Then he told me I could have the bike for $20. I had to take it off his hands cause he was such a cool guy.

So I think I am going to just strip it down re paint it and build it up for riding back a forth to the store. I was just wondering if anyone knew what type of bike it was? He told me it was a 1951 Schwinn. I looked the bike over and could not find any markings to tell me what it is other than the number 8 on the crank tube. So does anyone know what it could be?

Thanks!

What the heck man! Leave it just as it is! It's cool like that. You're a fool if you think you need to change a cool bike like that.

It is a great looking bike. However, I am quite certain it is not a Schwinn, just by looking at the fork crown. I think it is either an older Rollfast or Murray.

good point. It doesn't take much to realize why the chainring and cranks are orange too.

Could be a sears spaceliner? I know they used that front fork. Definantly not a schwinn. Matt

agreed. Looks like a J.C. Higgins/Sears based on the fork, chainwheel and rear dropouts. something along the lines of the spaceliner/flightliner... right around 1960, if I had to put a year on it. Nice bike!
