Any Jack Taylor experts?

I was intrigued by this Jack Taylor and came close to purchasing it, but lost out in the end.

I noticed there are no lugs on the head tube. Is it fillet brazed? It might have even been repainted, do you think its possible it's not even a jack taylor?

Either way I thought it was cool and my size. I have a weak spot for English builders it seems. I'd love to have a nice commuter/tourer or city bike made by Mercian, Jack Taylor, Bob Jackson and a few others...

Bikes: I hate bikes!

I was watching that as well. It would have been too big for me but very cool. I thought it was fillet brazed but now I don't know....

many if not all the JTs I've ever seen were fillet brazed (or bronze-welded as the Brits would say) and I see no reason to doubt the description the seller offers. If he's lying, it's still probably another quality British fillet brazed frame with JT decals...not a bad price at $472.

Everybody finds J/T's except me (I know, as if should be complaining).

Wonder how they ride...

I wouldn't cry over that one, ATMO, especially given that it's fillet brazed.
Folks who ride 'em insist they ride great - it's part of the appeal - well, that and the hand box lining.
I've owned two and sold 'em both - lovely bikes, but others will be along shortly.

The Taylor brothers did lots of fillet brazed frames, they were well known for it. I LOVE fillet brazing, I sometimes prefer it to lugs, and my favorite bike/primary ride I own is fillet brazed as well. The build on that one is definitely "meh", but the frame looks legit. The serial number given follows the regular JT format, and corresponds to the date described.

I'm the one with the light blue Taylor, its from 1970, it has nervex lugs. it rides great, a good all a rounder but really shines on descents, incredibly confident and stable.

There's a pretty sweet JT Superlight Tourist on the Serotta forums classified boards right now, complete with constructeur racks.
