Help me ID this old bike
I picked up this bike a couple years ago off eBay and after letting it sit in my garage all this time, have finally started restoring it as a gift to my fiancee. I have no idea of the year or manufacturer, so I'm hoping to get some input. Serial number reads "R63046039". I can't find any trace of manufacturer anywhere.
These pictures are off the eBay auction. The bike is now completely disassembled, sanded and smoothed and covered in primer. I'll restore this old beauty back to health!

No ideas anyone? I'm guessing early 60's, but I'm just now getting into this hobby.
I spent another couple hours on it tonight, wet sanding the primer and throwing down the first layer of color. It's looking really nice! Next up, more wet sanding, more painting, more wet sanding, more painting... but I'm excited to be getting finished.

I looked through some of my vintage bike literature, but couldn't find a match. I was thinking Hawthorne or Shelby. I know there are forums for vintage balloon tire bikes. I'm sure they could help. At any rate, that's a cool ride - I love the rack and that thing (light?) on the front fender. I'm glad you're bringing it back to life.

I'm sorry I can't help. Try thecabe.com, you will probably get a pretty good response over there.

This is a 1960's vintage middleweight bike. It was most probably made by Murray who made most of these designed bikes.
This is an early version of the Sears Spaceliner
In fact, I would be willing to bet that that this bike is either a Hawthorne, Sears OR Montgomery Wards OR JC Penney version.
The rear carrier is unique. I think the real answer probably lies in the chainring and the chainguard. I am leaning toward thinking it is a Hawthorne because of the chubby chainguard.

Sounds good. Groove on. IT will look best with a metallic paint. Take the time to do it right and it will be really cool.
