Here we go again... Nishiki Prestige!

So if some of you may remember... I scored a really nice, nearly NOS Nishiki Prestige for my girlfriend from Ebay. I thought I got a pretty good deal. https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ghlight=sweaty

Well now her sisters got bit by the bike bug and are a bit envious after riding the Prestige. They want to sell off their single speeds and get something more along the lines of the Nishiki. Well now I just spotted this and am going to check it out in a few hours

looks good from here, and hard to find many of those very small frames with both 700C wheels...funny that it's called "prestige" but made not with Tange Prestige but with Champion #2. Still looks like a good one.
Needs a pedal dustcap, that should let you knock $25 off the asking price!

Earlier Prestiges (1985-6) were constructed with Infinity tubing; that may have been before the Prestige tubeset was marketed. The funny thing is that the typeface used on the model name (Palatino) was the same as that used for Prestige tubing!

FYI, a nice 60 cm Prestige just sold on Chattanooga CL for $195. Yours looks very nice.

My all-time favorite Nishiki (perhaps as the first decent roadbike that I built from a frame was a Prestige). Great rider, and pretty decently finished for an upper mid-range machine.

Well I went with my sister in-law's boyfriend to pick up the bike. The thing is damn near perfect. I can't find a single paint chip on it.

Outfitted with some aero brakes and cyclone components. Looks great and the blue glitter paint is really nice in the sun. I'll take some pictures and post them soon

Bike looks alot like the 1986 I had earlier this year. Hard to find such a sweet bike in a small size. I did have to change it to yellow bar tape.

Nice!

I picked this Prestige up about a year or so ago, same year as yours. I travelled over 200 miles to get it. The Tange 2 tubing is very similiar to Tange 1. The components are very nice but not index. Originally I was going to tear it down and rebuild as a brifter bike, but now I'm reluctant and may just keep it as is.

Rocco, is that Prestige of yours wearing 27" rims? The frame has the look of a 54/55cm from the headtube, yet, it looks much taller for some reason. Very, very sharp, in fact.

rocco leaves that bike unattended and it's gone, baby.

Tange Prestige tubing was used in 1985 on the Centurion Prestige, and I believe in 1986 on the Panasonic DX6000. I'm not sure when it showed up on the Nishiki, but I did see a Nishiki Prestige with Prestige tubing. I've always assumed they all had it.

Tange Infinity tubing was used in 1983 on the Centurin Lemans RS, with 2001 Mangaloy forks.]

I'm not sure why other makers used it later, because I suspect Panasonic was making those frames.

Bikes: All 70s and 80s, only steel.

I have a Nishiki Prestige I bought off someone that's made from Tange Infinity tubing. The thing was in near-perfect condition, barely ridden, and has a complete set of gold components--Suntour oval chainrings in gold, brownish-gold anodized 27 x 1" rims, and gold dia-compe brakes. The odd thing about it to me is the fact the brakes have their cable feeds on the right (?) side. Putting housing on it was a little bit of a challenge--the loops were just a bit off. I've wondered if the bike was brought over by the original owner (old roommate of the seller) from England or something. Anyway, it's a very nice rider.

My 1986 Nishiki Prestige had Tange Infinity tubing, and looked like a twin of Rocco's bike. This is the only pic I kept of the bike, which also shows a Trek 412 I had as well (also moved on to a new home).

Early 80s vintage Dia-Compe and Shimano sidepulls were "right-side" cabled. There's been discussion about that on this forum before. Later the righties converted to left side cabling.
