Bikes: I currently own a Giant Brass 1 dirt jumping bike. I love it. I bought it December 1st, 2008.

Mag Wheel Hub

Hello everyone. I just picked up a few bikes (vintage Sears Stingray look-a-likes) that were in pretty bad condition. Bought all three for $20. I also bought a pair of vintage Grand Harvest 20" wheels. I am wanting to put the mag wheels (I have 2 pairs now) on the two Sears bikes, but the 2 rear mag wheels currently have freewheels on them, and the Sears bikes don't have brake mounts anywhere. I am wanting to have either a fixed gear hub or a coaster brake hub in the rear mags. Is it possible to change out the hubs in mag wheels?

I will have pictures of everything by tomorrow.

I do not think so. how is the hub mouinted? the mags are nylon resin (plastic) yes? if the bearing races are simply pressed into the plastic you will not be able to. if the hub is mounted to a pair of flanges that screw onto the hub then might have room to mickey mouse something. you should be able to remove the freewheel, but why would you want to put a fixed gear on a 20" kids bike?

I want to make the bikes fixed gear because there are no brake mounts on any of the three frames.

well a fixed gear will not have brakes either as when the wheels are moving the pedals are moving. you need coaster brake wheels for sure. but as much as you wish to use the mag wheels it may be easier to and cheaper to just get regular steel coaster brake wheels.
