schwinn frontier
did a search, didn't find much.
i have a line on an older looking (heck, here is the link: right here). i've wanted to get an older, taller mtb frame and make sort of an indestructible bumber of a bike, mostly for around town. is this a good machine? anybody with firsthand knowledge?
many thanks-
rod

thanks for the quick responses.
where i am confused is that sheldon's site says a frontier model did come with 650bs (harris cycles has 650b interchangeable with 26 x 1 1/2) and that's what the frontier is spec'd at-- wild. i do not know what i need to know, same as ever.

I have one and I love it. It's solid, yes heavy but robust. My 285lb carcass can ride gravel roads without getting pinch flats and the SIS shifters shift smoothly. I bought it to flip it, but then rode it at lunch and liked it too much to sell it. It's now my go to bike when I go out riding with my son because it can go anywhere we want to ride.

It did come with 650B wheels in the early 90's (I believe 92 & 93). Schwinn, desperate to keep the company afloat, used this tactic to drop the tarrif on the bikes imported from China from 30% to 15% (or some such similar numbers).

I rode a Frontier, 12 spd, I will call a hybrid type bike for many years. made in Taiwan, & was nebver a problem with it. SOLID, but somewhat heavy, bike. $80 is about all they will bring around here, because everyone seems to want a new mountain bike or road bike.
