Hello after further communication with Scotford Lawrence of the national cycle musuem he is confident to state that the rod brake linkage is original to a 1934/35 bike and especially as I had informed him that the bike and mudguards had a dark green coachline applied but that the wheels with there hub brakes were from a later bike. This confirms what choteau stated later fitting of wheels, Thanks Tim, and the dating of the front hub by hilarystone to 1939. Now if only PERRY MASON, COLUMBO,and good old 10 4 BRODERICK CRAWFORD could chip in I am sure this case Sorry bike could be solved. Cheers John

Hello all, it seems like quite a while since I added anything to this post and for what it is worth here are some pictures of the bike at present in fact I have just returned home after riding 7 miles on the Sunbeams maiden voyage. I still have to add the rear reflector and add white strip on rear mudguard. I also want to add a few more coats of paint which is a Berger make paint which I used for years on the gates and railings I made as a hobby.I know the bike is glossy but the paint will dull almost to a matt finish. Paint application was by brush and second coat by roller. The next will probably be by brush which is giving me the finish I want rather than by spray or powder coat.

I hope I have not destroyed this bike by my actions but I feel that it was on the top of a scrap heap and was about to be mangled with all the other metal so the fact that is still a usable bike will do for me.

I have learned a lot or relearned a lot by playing with this bike and would recommend the same to anyone who has a similar oppurtunity. Comments thoughts are more than welcome Cheers.

Bikes: too many

Definately worthwhile results, really like the way it turned out.
Had an old bike back when I was 15 or so, that had the same style brakes on front, except for markings they they were exactly like an old puch(?) moped's brake.

Ken.

Hello all I would like to inform you that this bike has been donated to a charity bike concern and they will display it as a wall queen as I only used it to go for a morning paper. The charity concern has about 10 young guys working for experience and I am sure that if even one of them learns something from this bike then that is a bonus and can only add to the cycling experience. I thank all who contributed to this posting. Thank you John.
