You done well. Looks like you did a nice job cleaning up the bike as well. I'm glad the bike ended up in the hands of someone who appreciates it. Don't worry about the seatpost. It's easy to get caught up in upgrade-itis and drops lots of dough with little improvements in performance or weight.

I would spend the money instead on new brake hoods if you can find them. Be careful replacing the bars because they might have a different size clamp than your stem. Your existing bars certainly look more classic and fit the appearance the frame better.

A bike shop should be able to replace your cog with the missing link for a nominal cost. Or buy a replacement and do it yourself.

That is one beautiful bike.

The 600 RD and FD will handle the 9-sp rear just fine, you can expand the RD to meet the range, and the FD should work, since you're in friction mode. A 9-sp chain is necessary, but I've done this with the 600 before, even the 600EX, and it works.

If you can get the 600 aero seatpost, great, but if not, don't worry about it, and there are pretty System Component and American Classic posts that look good and can be found used under $10,t hen polished up.

One of my "looking for" bikes. I'm going today to see if a seller has one, in yellow...

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I don't know much about them, but the Araya's do seem to be nice wheels. I'm putting a few miles on them now. I love riding this bike!

Is this a good choice for a 9 spd. chain or is it too cheap?

I have some of those hoods (NOS) if you have trouble finding them near you.
How much do you want for them?
