Anyone have solid info on these bikes (Pics)

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y26...i/Bike_007.jpg I'm working on restoring this and due to the age and the switching combinations of the three names, Raleigh Lenton Sports Robin Hood There seems to be much confusion and contradiction info online. The general consensus I've read online is that the Raleigh Robin Hood was the budget brand However, Lenton Sports models were top of the line with butted Reynolds and Brooks racing saddles, etc. Is it possible that this frame is the Reynolds 531 db tubing and the cost savings to make tyhis an entry level racer was achieved by leaving out extra brazings for pumps, etc. and using less expensive components? Have a look at my photostream and tell me what you think. http://www.flickr.com/photos/40949766@N05/ |
I can't answer any questions, but regardless of tubing, that is a great looking bike!

There was just another thread on this same model:
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=292690 The example I show in that thread was definitely straight-gauge hi-ten tubing. I'd guess yours is, too. What seatpost size does it take? Neal |
Ah, Thank you very much. That looks exactly like what I've got. I was hoping that it was Reynolds 531 db tubing because I read in the Lenton Raleighs article that all Lenton Sports were made with Reynolds, but that could be true only for RALEIGH/Lentons and not Lenton/Robin hoods.
Very confusing the way they interchanged branding, huh? Regardless, the bike caught my eye and my secret sauce of Naval jelly and foaming grill cleaner is making the chrome and steel come back to life. My neighbor runs an Acura Service Dept. and he is having touch up paint mixed for an exact match on the Olympic Gold paint. This is my first bike project, and its fun. I may end up with a pretty neat retro- racing bike too.

Thanks very much for that info. If I take some more pictures o.
f the components, do you think you could deduce anything else? For instance, the saddle is a Wright Saddle Co. Ltd Birmingham. From what I can find online, Wright was folded into Brooks in the early sixties. Would this set a top range for the age of my bike? The derailleur is a Huret Allvit second generation. My research suggests these were introduced around 1961 or '62. Assuming the bike is all original, Is it logical to think this bike is from the range of 1961-1963? The serial # is 4501666, but I find nothing online about Raleigh sub brand serial numbers like this. In the meantime, I'll keep scrubbing and polishing until I know more about what I'm fixing. :D
