Accushift derailleur compatibility
Someone I know has a 1989 Fuji Del Rey with what seems to be a mismatched drive train. The shifters are Suntour Accushift 6 speed downtube, the rear derailleur is a Shimano STX long cage, and the freewheel is a Shimano SIS 6 speed. However, all things considered, it shifts pretty well. I was wondering if anyone has tried Accushift index shifters with a Suntour 7 GT long cage rear derailleur. I want to use the STX for a build I'm currently working on and substitute the 7 GT. I'll give it a try tomorrow evening, but if anyone has tried this already I would appreciate a heads up. Thanks in advance and keep spinning.

The Suntour 7 GT isn't really compatible with Accushift since it only has a lower pivot spring, all Accushift rd have an upper and lower pivot. The 6 speed Accushift will work with the Shimano freewheels since the spacing between the cogs is very close to that of the Suntour Accushift freewheels. The spacing of the 7speed freewheels aren't that close between Suntour and Shimano. And of course, the Suntour 7 GT will work fine with the shifters in "friction" mode, but you knew that.
