Sad: Neutered High End Trek

I was searching for used Brooks and I found this:

https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/bik/1315810493.html

With the brake cable guides and double bottle holders bosses, no way in hell this is a '78 frame.

Check out the lugs and the fork crown,

then check out the shifter bosses and derailleur hanger.

I have only one word to say to the person who "created" that monstrosity:

DREW!

oh good lord, that's bad. at least it's not as bad as some others i've seen.

(chopping cable guides should be a punishable offense)

Oh well.... maybe people will start brazing in mass again in order to augment our depleted stock of lugged beauties.
When you compare pricing of a mid grade Trek from that era, they are still selling well below even a bottom end Trek road bike now. I think that vintage bikes (at least the common ones) are still a great value and not expensive at all.

YMMV.

To be honest, the derailleur hanger is what irritates me. The other things really don't detract in a meaningful way from the functionality of the bike.

It is sad to see that, who could grind the DH off a Campy dropout? No respect for heritage.

As to year: the combination of the double bottle bosses, with top brake cable guides, the beveled (non fast back) seat stays and the cutout lug work in the fork crown put that like 82-84 maybe a 957 ??? Definitely a top end Trek from the day due to the lug work around the bottle bosses. I have an 83 760 and the single bottle bosses are just raised, drilled and tapped, no fancy lug work.

Frame looks (to me) an awful lot like my 83 600.....those would then be suntour dropouts (still should have preserved the hanger) - also seems to have removed all the fender mounts. And actually has dimpled chain stays which might place it even lower than the 600....not necessarily ultra high end trek.....

They're ********. I think I've said more than enough about a recent destruction of another nice older bike by one of these fixie morrons. A friend said: "why don't they just set it up so it can't shift?"
But, what the Hell, you know, at least they're riding the darn things.

That's no trek 600. Look at the crown again and the short pointy lugs and the double bottle holders bosses. Probably, a 75x or 97x. I don't have a thing for Trek but seeing a drewed high end vintage frame made me really sad.
