I have to thank you guys for letting me in on the fact that you can use 7-speed Shimano shifters with an 8-speed drivetrain. I have a bunch of 7-speed DT's and 8-speed cassettes. As a result, I have been in a sort of DT period. The Land Shark worked out so well that I, once again, reconfigured my 1989 Trek 660, this time with 8-speed DT goodness.

My 79 930, which I am absolutely loving.

my dad gave me his old trek that he bought new in i think 85, and its been sitting for 10 years or so. I put some new wheels on it and fixed it up a bit and have been riding it every day since. Its got all original campy components.

That's a nice bike that's still in great shape. Take care of it because their difficult to find and Trek no longer makes them like that, in fact Trek is so far removed from that that I will never buy a new Trek.

I got a '82 model 614 which I really love so far. I bought it for $150 plus $20 for the SPDs. I have had to get the wheels trued and the derailleurs tuned up by the LBS, but it has good bike so far. It has a few scratches on it, but I dont think Im going to have it painted. Where is a good place to get vintage trek decals?

I have not found a site yet that sells vintage Trek decals, Trek is just not as collectible as Paramount for example that you can find decals for.

The decals on it have an American flag on it which I like and would like to get a replica for my bike.

There are places around that sell flag decals, you can also have a qualified print shop make you set of decals but their transfers and are thicker then a decal.

Dude, that's a great site; thanks for finding it. My decals on my Trek has faded pretty bad from years of So Calif sun and was looking for replacement decals. Thanks for finding that, you should post it on the classic bike page of this forum.

Just bought a 660 of the auction site last nite for a song. Needs some TLC but it has 700 wheels and Shimano 600, But sub 200 for a 531 bike is a deal for me. Plus, I get to take a road trip to pick it up! Its not near as nice as my 87 520 but it should be a great ride.

Great find. I would have snapped it up in a minute, although I'm not sure about driving across the Republic of Texas to pick it up. Take plenty of provisions.

Well, I live in Dallas and was going to Austin anyway. So in truth its only a hour from Austin, So not to bad for a nice bike.

I've made that drive many times and it is not bad at all.

Here is my lastest project -- 1989 Trek 660 single speed.
I still have my original 1989 660. It was my first good racing bike.
I have been looking for the white version and found it on CL a couple of weeks ago. This bike is no virgin. It was raced hard by a local Crit racer and has a few small scars to prove it. But, overall it is in great shape and came with a full 600 7-speed group, aero seatpost and black Turbo, but missing the front wheel.
I bought it from the racer's son who said, "It was my dad's first good racing bike." Karma.
It was filthy and probably had been stored for the last 15 years. But, even so, everything was well lubed with old lube.
Torn down and rebuilt, it is a great quick ride with the 73.5/73.5 angles and feels similar to my 2007 Schwinn Madison.

Just dug up this thread searching for something else. I figured I's put a picture of my 85 660, slightly modified. I found this one on the "are you looking for one of these?" thread a couple of years ago, local and cheap. $100.00 id I recall.

Bumping for relevance. Picked up this '84 660 for $120 off CL a couple weeks ago. Needs some cleanup, has quite a few miles, tape and hoods are shot, but it appears mostly original sans pedals - on that note, what pedals originally came on the '84, and is there a decent source for the yellow Benotto Cello/Celocinta Pro tape for less than $20?

Tire on this one was flat so I tossed another pair of Maillard-hubbed 700c on it to take it for a ride. Light and responsive but felt aggressive (not sure if I like). The Modolo brakes are craptastic and kept lurching even when tight. RD and FD were both ill-adjusted, fixed before heading out.

Not necessarily my bag of chips, going to rebuild anyway, try with a different seat, properly adjusted, and diff't pedals and see how it goes.

Got this frame in a trade and built it up. Would have preferred the white w/ red decals, but I tried to make the best of it:





Dura Ace shifters & RD, Campy Triomphe brakes, levers & LF hubs, SR FD, & Daytona 175mm cranks w/ Willow 48-38-28 triplizer.

I'm impressed with the True Temper Team tubing... a nice riding set-up. Nice details for a production bike are the fork crown, fastback seat stays
and routing the RD cable through the chain stay.
