hey everyone new to the forum and cycling so thought id post in this forum first seeings how i have only own bikes older than 20 years old. =D

heres the first bike i bought, 1970's nishiki
after my 3rd ride this is what happenend =(

then i got my early 80's Schwinn approved Le Tour

rode that for acouple months, but my commute is around 25 miles round trip with some pretty steep hills so i wanted to get a lighter bike. Then i got this 1988 Cannondale Black Lightning and i absolutely love it

Wow, talk about an upgrade. You will get used to the downtube shifters eventually with a commute like yours.
Nice bike

Bikes: 1986 Alan Record Carbonio, 1985 Vitus Plus Carbone 7, 1984 Peugeot PSV, 1972 Line Seeker, 1986(est.) Medici Aerodynamic (Project), 1985(est.) Peugeot PY10FC
The Cannondale Black Lightning needs it's original derailleurs.
The bike came from the factory with special black and gold anodized Superbe Pro RDs and gold FD.
My brother still has the Black Lightning he bought new in the 80's and he loves the bike to this day. Only thing he was dissapointed in was the Dupont paint finish that chipped real easy. Otherwise he said that it's a nice stiff and light bike that climbs real good!
Maybe the original owner still have these derailleurs that you can buy from him??

Incorrect.
That is an all original, 1989 or 1990 Cannondale SR500, Black Lightning. It came with Suntour Edge components those years.
Nice bike.

+ The only negative I see with Cannondales is the paint. I have three this year, all in great condition, except the paint chips really easy. Fortunately, black is a great color for touch up. Hopefully, by 1990 they got the paint right.

The lug gave way. That kinda bothers me now since most my bikes are lugged. I really don't want that hapening. thats only happened once but because I cut a department store bike up so as soon as someone sat on it. it would shatter... lol but it was recycled I used it as bike art

Here's the actual derailleur which I am giving back to my brother because I just convinced him to restore his Black lightning back to riding condition.

He still has the black and gold FD mounted on his bike.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.
Just keep an eye on those cantilevered dropouts; more than a few of those have failed.
