Looks nice. Not sure if it's gonna be a purchase for me, but I like it.

Antipodes 08-19-09 07:55 PM

Oh god, what next, American Flyers II?

Look at the tig weld on the top tube.

Shhhhhhhh! Let's not spook them. They're getting closer to "The Trap." I have a feeling we might gets us a Roadie! Easy....easy.....that's it....a little closer now......Shhhhhhhh.......

No lugs, no care. I'd rather have a Soma Stanyan for new school steel lugged goodness

http://somafab.com/stanyan.html

frpax 08-19-09 08:50 PM

Well, I like it. It's steel. And steel is real. It's a step in the right direction. Who knows? Maybe next will be lugged frames?

lotek 08-19-09 08:53 PM

Lugs are but one method of joining tubes, fillet brazing has been around a long time so I have no
problem with the Allez.
It's a steel frame, it's all good.

Eh, 610 is pretty pricey...

PlatyPius 08-19-09 09:02 PM

Raleigh is bringing back the Record Ace for 2010. It's a lugged steel frame (Reynolds 520) and has a full Ultegra group on it. Retail will be $1799.99. I'm seriously considering EP'ing one, selling off the Ultegra, and building it up with Record. The thing is freaking gorgeous. Oh, Brooks Swallow saddle is included.

The Clubman gets cooler for 2010 as well. It now has colour-matched fenders. Still tig-welded 520 Reynolds.

Why do we need another egotistical bum?

Does this mean we have to hang out on the road forum more often?

JunkYardBike 08-19-09 09:14 PM

I bet $600 could get me a 3Rensho built Allez with Dura Ace.

Have you ridden the 520 frames? I'm curious about the ride quality.

Kommisar89 08-19-09 09:18 PM

A step in the right direction. Add lugs and a quill stem and I'd be interested.

If you could find one... maybe.

My Bianchi Pista is 520. Nothing unusual. But it's fixed gear with track geometry so it's hard to compare.

Is that a challenge? :twitchy:

RobbieTunes 08-19-09 09:38 PM

OK, this years C&V Velo contest could be to spend $610, not $149.99...

Instead of Velo Cheapo, it could be Velo, Uh-Oh....

Specialized did a good thing. The price makes an entry level buyer really think about new vs. used, when before at that price, it was used or nothing. Well, other than the Denali.

And I'll bet the words "used bike" will come up a little more often, if a buyer thinks $610 is too high.

Sure. why not? :thumb: Where's the downside in finding one?
I'll take a 54cm c-to-c, if you come across one!!

Velo Expensivo.

Oh, wait - I forgot the CR list had exclusive rights to that ;)

I've ridden the Clubman. It's a very nice riding bike. If I do get a Record Ace (when they become available), I'll be sure to post a review.

Panthers007 08-19-09 10:36 PM

I see this talk of steel has awakened Johnny Pi**off.

The Raleigh sound very intriguing! Think I'll do some homework...

cb400bill 08-19-09 10:50 PM

It looks like the Allez at $610 is a far better deal than the Fuji Connoisseur is at $1500.
