Raleigh Ti track frame - barn find!

Hi all,
i just got this frame and forks - in a bit of a sorry state for the price of a few beers.
I'm going to get it restored / renovate it - might take a while!

Now the interesting bit : serial number is SB 436

can anyone tell me what year this is from? any other info?

thanks in advance

SB means Ilkeston special production under Gerald O'Donovan. Mine (check the ergo thread) is 2822 and was built in '78. The special ops factory opened in '74, so yours should be '74 or '75.

Congrats on a fab find!

Bikes: '39 Hobbs, '58 Marastoni, '73 Italian custom, '75 Wizard, '76 Wilier, '78 Tom Kellogg, '79 Colnago Super, '79 Sachs, '81 Masi Prestige, '82 Cuevas, '83 Picchio Special, '84 Murray-Serotta, '85 Trek 170, '89 Bianchi, '90 Bill Holland, '94 Grandis

I would suggest joining the Raleigh Team Pro Yahoo group and asking for info there - lot's of very knowledgeable folks when it comes to SBDU bikes.

I have SB1092, and was under the impression that mine was made in '77. I concur with your assessment of when the OP's was made, but I suspect yours might have been built a year or two later than think.

Info here suggests you might be right: January '79 perhaps!

thanks for your replies!

I've just joined the Raleigh forum on Yahoo so will post up the frame there too.

I was extremely lucky to come across this frame - i'm a Brit currently living in new zealand and was talking about bikes to a colleague who used to race track and road in the late 80s. She had this frame stored under a pile of other bits and let me have it.
I'm going to live back in the UK in a year or so so it will be going "back home" to be restored!

The other amazing bike that i'm trying to buy off my colleague is a custom made to measure track pursuit bike with a rear sugino disc and wolber 650c front (banned evidently) - it's mega light and in fantastic condition - was made in the late 80s from columbus ms (i think but need to check!)

hopefully the pull of nostalgia won't be too strong so i can get my hands on this beauty!

other bikes i have include a 1979 gazelle champion mondial and a 2009 bob jackson vigorelli "path racer"
i'll post up some pics of those too

Bikes: Crap. The box is not big enough...

yeah, wheels must be the same size. I think you scored big time.

Buy your friend a swank dinner/night out.

the tubing on the track pursuit is Columbus KL - pretty rare (and light!) by all accounts...

pics will be up soon
