Bowery Lane bikes, anyone?

They look good, claims to be made in US, vintage style.
Anyone ridden one?

just buy an old raleigh off craigslist

David Newton 08-25-09 02:06 PM

I've been watching CL and my local buy n sell for months, even have a WTB raleigh ad going.
It's a desert here.

then in that light I say go for it and let us know how it turns out
they are more like your classic English 3 speed than you will find today and the price ain't bad

Wheelbase too long, bottom bracket too high. Geometry looks more like an American, diamond-frame middleweight then an English machine.

I'd expect geometry similar to a full-touring bike on a English clone - not this.

P.S.: The Bronx Raw is a disaster waiting to happen.

I found a couple in the houston area for you
austrian (puch) made sears 3 spd
great bike I have owned a few
Free spirit don't know where made
another
free spirit 10spd

alot of these were made in austria by puch and I have loved the couple three I have owned over the years

Onslo,
Thanks.
That Sears puch was maybe mine, except I still have the rear wheel from it. $200 counting gas for that one. I guess I'm still in sticker shock about what these plain 3 speeds are up to. Last one I got in a thrift store was $25.

Kurt, what would be the down side of a longer wheelbase? I always thought the Sports were a tad short. The BB doesn't seem any higher than a sport, but I'm just comparing photos.

Thanks guys for humoring me.

I recently picked up a 1970's PUCH 3-spd. here in Vermont. It was branded PUCH though - not SEARS. They are excellent. Just finished restoring mine.

kurt does have a point the bb being high prevents you from putting a foot down while in the saddle (traditional test of a brit utility bike)

also the trail on that bike seems to be lacking grossly which means the bike won't handle well with a load on the front if you steer past a point the bike will collapse over on you
