Here's how to search: go to the search function, search for oxalic acid, and be sure to check the box "sort by relevance". There is plenty of good info out there.

There is also a way to search this site from Google.

If the search engine is not working for me I use the google method. Just put this text in a google search

oxalic acid site:bikeforums.net

I'm going by memory here, but I believe these are the steps:

Get a tub of DAP Oxalic Acid crystals - can be purchased at Sherwin Williams,
Mix a couple of tablespoons of it per gallon of water or so (this might be overdoing it, for that matter),
Dunk objects for a few hours,
Remove and rinse with water and baking soda,
Let dry.

Bikes: 1995 Trek 520 is the current primary bike.

So that's the phrasing used to google discussion forums, thanks.

As to the Ox Acid stuff, also download the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for it so you don't end up on a different kind of trip.

And with a thread title like this one had you just had to know there'd be a variety of replies.
