Is there a good source of info for Carlton made Raleigh's
I've picked up a Raleigh/Carlton "corsa strada" I think 1972. I'm really curiuos about the history of the marque. I like it and, it seems to be set up with good components. But there doesn't seem to be much information available.
thanks for any information

Just about all of the Raleighs built with high-quality Reynolds tubing have a strong Carlton connection, as the vast majority were built at the Worksop facility Raleigh obtained when it purchase Carlton in 1960. I believe many these bikes, including models well-known here such as the Professional, International, etc., continued to be sold for some time in the UK via the Carlton brand.

Carlton is a name that goes way back in England. I believe Raleigh acquired Carlton in the late 50s when they wanted to move more into the 10-speed market. Many Carlton models became similar Raleighs, and Carlton sold bikes to other companies like Huffy to be rebranded. Many of the 70s Raleighs carried "built by Carlton stickers". Carltons continued to be sold too. I think in the 80s the Raleigh name was sold to a group in the US, and there were Raleighs USA, different than Raleigh England.
I've always liked Carltons.

thanks for the replies, I've only had it for a few weeks, was alocal thrift store find. It rides great, everything seems to work smoothly, and with a little TLC and polish should look great.
