C & V Bikes at a car show?

The small town where i live, Flowery Branch, Ga. has a festival planed for later this month. Part of the activities is a car show & shine. It half way crossed my mind to being a few of my 80's bikes for display, with the vintage transportation theme. The more i think about this the worse the idea seems. I would just be setting myself up for reticule. Would this be a bad idea? Anyone here done anything similar?

Why not?

I think its a cool idea. I go to car shows myself, and sometimes its nice to see something "else" other than a bunch of nice cars.

It would be different if you were bringing some boring bikes that do not have a story to tell. But a C&V will always catch the right eyes.

Talk to the organizers and ask if they'll set aside a portion of the assigned area for a vintage bike show.

The last Volksblast show had just that at the north end of the show. These are the best "overall" photos I have of the meet:

I think you might be surprised how many car guys and gals also happen to love bicycles. Myself included. ;-)

80s ain't that old, but they might be cool with it. Last car show I went to was pre-63 only, but there were 70s rods in the parking lot, as well as a handful of lowrider bikes there.

Check with the organizers. Is it a serious show? 50+ year old bikes in great condition probably wouldn't bring ridicule. A WWII paratrooper bike would generate some excitement. 1980s Huffys and Murrays would open you to some ridicule. Some of the serious 1980s road bikes in pristine condition could possibly get you alot of favorable attention. What type of bikes are you thinking of bringing? I am also slightly into C&V cars, and I just park my rides and walk around. Some of the cars at the shows are simply incredible.

These are may best three bikes. Look-Hinault, la vie claire 1986 TdF. 1987 Guerciotti. 1985 Panasonic. All full Campy.

I'm just not sure they would generate much interest. Not really vintage bikes but classics maybe.

It's more a festival & a car show. The local VW club draws lots of classic Dubs. Not a serious event.

I'd say match the bikes to the cars, they're headlining the show so it'd be best to do bikes that complement them.

Kustom Kruisers with Kustom Kars, along with rat and tank bikes with muscle cars and hot rods. I'd think your bikes would be happiest with vintage sports and touring cars, but my thinking might be too narrow.

Possibility. If you had a car you could tie it into, it would probably work. Example: my '67 convertible Mustang & my road bikes. Those shows can be a PITA, though. With the car I always worry about getting belt buckle scratches on the paint when they look around it. The bikes would probably run a chance of getting knocked over if they didn't have a proper stand.

I used to show my 1952 Benotto together with my 1954 Fiat. The organizers always likes the idea as there was a great tie-in as Benotto and Fiat were built less than a few miles apart in Turin and both were from the same period. The kids who came around to the shows usually spent more time around my car and bike than anywhere else (perhaps because I let them actually sit in the car, whereas everybody else would chase kids away)

Go for it...

I volunteer a great deal of my time to Bicycles for Humanity, a group that salvages and shares bicycles with people in need of basic transportation. To date our group has sent 2200 bicycles to Africa and perhaps another hundred or so to those in need in our own city. Anyway...

For one of our events I decided to rent a booth at a local Farmer's Market and put on my own little vintage bicycle display. I tried to contact other collectors in the city to bring their bikes but few showed. No problem...

The display was a great success as far as I was concerned. I earned $654.00 in donations from the people who threaded through all day long looking at the old bikes. Many were impressed and happy to view such an unusual collection. And one guy sat down with me in for a cup of tea, commenting on the whole idea of the display. He was also positively impressed with the efforts and results of Bicycles for Humanity Thunder Bay. Upon getting up to go, he gave me his number suggesting that he had a nice frame set he would sell me for a very good price.

That's how I got my Gardin Anniversary(commemorating Campy's 50th).

At the end of September, a local British Sports Car club has their annual car show held at a county park. Since I'm thinking of starting a vintage bike restoration business centered on English 3 speeds, I'm planning on taking one of my Raleigh Sports to the show. My idea is to walk around the show with the bike to see if I get any interest from the car owners or even the spectators. I'll have business cards to hand out and hopefully I'll get some people thinking about buying a nice English bike to display with their cars.

There's an Italian car and motorcycle show held in Denver each year called Automezzi. Over the past couple years, a couple of us have shown up with our Italian bikes, both vintage and modern, as sort of an unofficial sideshow. I love the idea of displaying cars and bikes together, say by nationality. I however don't have an Italian car at the moment, nor do I own any German bikes. British perhaps.

Nice match-ups, but you're confusing me. A '69 Raleigh professional next to an Italian sports car?
