I was told i should come here
Im trying to identify my vintage road bike. I've had it for years and years, i thought it was a shimano untill i was informed shimano never made a complete.
So i thought i'd ask some people that live fore this stuff. i know nothing about this bike except, it used to have a sr headset(the aluminum has a crack in it(if its worth fixing ill buy another) everything(and i mean everything) on this bike is from shimano, except the brake handles, those are from a company called "exige" or something like that. I can post more pictures of anywhere if needed. Also when i took it to the bike shop for new tires and tubes and a chain, i asked the owner(an old school bicyclist) if he had any idea what year it was, and he guessed it to be a 75'. http://i453.photobucket.com/albums/q...head/006-1.jpg I'm also kinda looking at seling it, not right away, its to much fun to ride :D but in the future after i fix the headset and decide to get rid of it to fund my bmx habits what would ya'll recomend asking for it? |
Show us more pictures. Take some close-ups, and we need to see the drivetrain side of the bike.
I'm thinking it could be a Lejeune. |
Brake levers might be Exage (Shimano).
|
Hello looks like a nice solid lugged frame. the brake lever seem to have been up graded to shimano exage aero levers but the hoods seem to be missing or severly damaged.
now as for dating and identifying. pics from the chain side of the bike. close ups of the head tube area and any detailing on the luggs. close up of the sear lug. and the rear droputs that will help other figure out (if they can) the make of frame. close ups of the derailuers will also help with figuring out the year. wether you intend to sell it or keep and ride it fix the headset. as I am sure you know from BMX a bad/misadjusted HS can ruin a frame. |
Think it could be a Volare???? Nevermind it's not you'd have the chrome crown up by the fork/shifters. Sexy bike nonetheless.

might be a Stronglight crank: if so, then maybe a Gitane or Raleigh...better pics needed.
|
It's definitely a Stronglight crank.

One more vote for more pics! |
Yes, that crank can't be mistaken for anything but a Stronglight 93. Unless I'm mistaken.
|
Gitane I'd say...
|
Better higher quality pic's coming in just a bit, i need to restart the computer.
|
Serial number? Seatpost size?
|
Also, i did check the writing on the crank, and it is a stronglite.
|
Nervex Pro forkcrown, but that's all there is of the Nervex Pro lugset.

Smells like a resprayed Peugeot...

its a real mish mash of components...The brakes are Shimano 600 'arabesque' from the mid 80's, the Shimano Crane rear derailleur is earlier than that by at least 5 years. The front Derailleur is probably one of the newer parts on there.
interesting Fork Crown http://i453.photobucket.com/albums/q...20bike/019.jpg I was trying to look and see if I can see Forged or stamped dropouts, but instead noticed that the rear derailleur cable stop on the chainstay is mounted upsidedown. Flipping that over the right way should improve the shifting. http://i453.photobucket.com/albums/q...20bike/001.jpg |
do you have a way to weigh it?
normally with nicer components like this you'd just assume its some kind of cro-moly frame (at least main tubes) but is it possibly a gas pipe frame thats just wearing fancy jewelry? |
