Shogun 1000 info?

While trolling the local Craigslists, I came across an ad for what appeared to be a nice-condition, mid-80's Shogun 1000. I know very little about the Shogun lineup, but the components were higher-end, so I assumed the frame would at least be reasonable. The price was right and I picked it up.

The bike came with a complete Shimano 600 6207 group (except the cranks, which were inexplicably Sora 3300 ), as well as a Sakae seatpost, stem, and bars. The front wheel is a Shimano 600 6207 hub laces to an Araya rim. The rear, however, is a Maillard hub and an unknown rim (decal is mostly missing).

There is no decal on the seat tube to tell me what tubing set was used, but the main triangle is obviously double-butted and has a nice ring when I flick it with my finger. The fork is stamped "TANGE.3.J" on the steerer, below the threading.

Does anyone have any more information about the tube set for this Shogun? Where did it fit into the overall Shogun lineup? Anyone have a line on a proper 6207 crankset?

I'd guess Tange 2. Looks like you'll need a BB also, that Sora one is splined. I seem to recall rumors that these were rebranded Panasonics. Yours has the same lugs as my '87 DX-4000. Is there a serial # stamped on the head tube?

The cranks are square taper, luckily. I have already taken everything apart, except the bottom bracket. I am not sure if the BB is original or not, since there aren't any model markings on the outside.

There is no serial number on the head tube, just on the bottom bracket shell that I posted.

Here's a link to the proper BB:

I see a lot of 600 cranks on Ebay and CL, should be easy to find one for $50 or so.

That looks like my BB, but they all look pretty similar. I'll know for sure once I get it out. It feels pretty rough right now. Hopefully it just needs a good cleaning and some fresh grease.

The bicycle is a 1984 model manufactured in late 1983. The specs list the tubeset simply as butted CrMo, however given the era and level it is almost certainly Tange #2, as suggested by jtarver.

There was a Shogun 3000 with Dura-Ace and also a 2001 Grand Touring model during this period, so your bicycle should have been 3rd in the product line. While I don't have the 1984 pricing, I can tell you that the identically spec'd 1985 sold for $499 US.
