Lemans RS - Pick it up or No?
So I have a couple friends who I've been helping find bikes for and I saw this on craigslist. Aside from the tires it looks like everything else is pretty much ready to ride (ie. It's cosmetic stuff). Decal on the downtube leads me to believe that it's got a Tange 2 frame. It does have a shallow dent on the top tube that can't be seen in the pictures according to the seller but likely not a problem structurally, right? Anyway, he wants about 120 and it means I'll drive to Pasadena in rushhour LA traffic. What do you guys think? Fair deal? The road bike market in LA is pretty crazy with the hipsters buying anything with two wheels for fixies....

That would be a fair price even in my much lower priced market. Unless Robbie Tunes says no, I'd proceed.

Appears to be a circa 1986/1987 model, if so original price $325-$400 US. Nice recreational/sports model, about 23-24 lbs in that size, Tange #2 main tubes. Stays and forks could be CrMo or Mangalloy depending on year, the decal looks like it could be Mangalloy. Shimano Light Action SIS rear derailleur.
I'm always leery about dents. Hard to say without seeing it in person or a very good pic. Sounds like it's worth the drive, if the market is as hot as you infer.

The best deals go super fast. There is no time to post a query. Someone will spot it and grab it.
Develop a list of potential target brands/models, and your preferred size, and pounce when the next one shows up. Another good deal will come!

I bought it. Its for a friend so I don't have it with me. I'm working on it tomorrow but the frame is in really good condition. The "dent" was a paint chip. No joke. The seller was nice enough but I think he was a little off. I'll post a couple pictures tomorrow after I have a chance to clean it up.
