well they would only be illlegal if you used them on an active line which would mean you are tresspassing. which I am sure some idiot has or will soon do.
a friend of mine lives near a rail trail and a few times a year this group shows up with "speed cars" adn runs them on the abandoned tracks. which is a line for Baltimore to York Pa. neat little buggies I'll see if I can find a pic
