Terry-design C&V

The 24" front wheel, darn nice groups that I've seen, and multiple brands selling them.

Several BF members have them, and I'll bet there's at least half a dozen I don't know of...
Grim, smoothness, etc. I know of 2 Terry models, a Centurion model, and a Nishiki model.

I'll start. 1986 "Despatch" model, Suntour Cyclone 7000 2x6 indexed, Araya 700c/24"

The early Symetry was nice too, as I recall a mid-80s . LL.Bean even sold them. The price they end up selling for, especially the Cents. is astonishing. These bikes are the answer for so many people.

norskagent just sent me to the Terry site for selling/buying these. They are sought after. It's hard to believe the one I picked up, Cyclone 7000 group, Tange 1 frame, Araya's, went for $400. A 105 Ironman the same year, $695, I think.

There was a Miyata 512 'Terry" style bike as well; '87 as I recall.

and blurb:

FWIW, I love the steel blue/yellow colors on my own 512, and plan on having my Dave Scott Ironman painted to match, but with the Centurion scheme.

Well, folks, there you have the list, from the mind of the master. I had no idea how extensive it was. If you have one here, or not here, send pics.

And anyone with a source for a good road 24" front tire, preferably one that can be matched w/700c....

Thanks, T-Mar. I'll run a couple intervals for you today....

Does the Terry site have a source for 24" tires? What does it say on the sidewall of your bike? 24" x 23? Funny how some parts specs mix and match english and metric.

Robbie,

That's only what comes to mind. I'm sure there are lots more.

My CDN distributor still lists 24 x 1" Kenda Koncept tires. 235g. 110psi. Black sidewall. Smooth centre ridge with herringbone edges. I imagine these must be available in the USA. They're $17 CDN, so I imagine about $15 in the USA..

BTW, it's not necessary to run the intervals for me. I did about 2 dozen yesterday. Must have run about 8k in total. My son entered his first cross-country race yesterday and I was spinting point to point across the course, trying to get pictures and cheer him and his team mates on, in 6 different races.

I had a Nishiki not too long ago. Several young ladies rode it and hateed it, the proportions were all wrong for them. Then a young lady with proper body proportions saw it and didnt like the 'look' but when she finished test riding it she bought it.

Quote: "Its the first bike I've ridden thats comfortable. I dont feel like I'm going to crash every time I turn. If feels balanced."

Oddly enough one of the young ladies who test rode it and didnt like it bought the Trek in the 2nd pic.

Just to throw a curve into the whole discussion, here's a 50cm Terry Chrom frame that I just picked up for my wife that takes 650c wheels. It was $26 and included a host of other parts. The seller was moving and just wanted to clean house

And for the Peugeotphiles, a 1988 PB10 Proportional. Appears to be Canadian market only, as this model was not cataloged in the USA.

Nice of the French to get with the program, and typical to snub us D. Yankees.

Bikes: Raleigh, Rudge, James 3spds., and a cast of many

Mr. Brown says Terry uses the 24x1" that is 520mm ISO. What do all the other brands use on the front?
There's a ridiculous assortment of 24" tire sizes out there, including one fractional size which can be either of TWO bsd dimensions. See https://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html

From what I understand, all the Terry-designed models use the 520mm ISO, as purchasing the specs required this, to make sure the wheel/caliper/fork dimensions were right. So far, I've only seen a couple of wheel mfgs represented, Wolber and Araya, and it could be they were the only ones interested.

I saw somewhere in my meanderings that the Terry model only uses the 520mm. Tubewise, you can use about any 24" as long as it's not too wide. I ordered "520mm" tubes and got 24x1's. It's rubber, they'll work.

But, every time I turn around on this subject, there's another example...

Never thought I'd see someone from your neck of the woods describe himself as a 'Yankee'.

Bikes: Schwinn Voyageur

I've got two at my house now. One the OP, Robbietunes, sent me. The Terry in the original post. (Great bike BTW! I owe you a thank you note). The other is a rebuild and update on a Miyata 512 that I'm doing for a customer. Aside from that, I picked up a Shogun last winter with Terry geometry, but steel wheels, cheap cranks, steel stem, etc. I was surprised, but for $20 you can't go wrong. I removed everything and built it for sale as a single speed, with a set of wheels I custom built for the bike, matching 700 and 24" rims, and a Brooks saddle

Here it is, prior to finishing the bars

I sold Peugeot bikes and the Terry type model pictured above at my shop in Connecticut. Along with the Fuji, Terrys, and the Panasonic model. Really was not aware that so many other manufacturers also made them.
