Rear wheel removal

I have to replace a couple of spokes in the rear wheel of my 1973 Raleigh Sports which, of course, is equipped with a SA 3-speed hub.. What's the absolute best "order of operations" to remove the rear wheel and NOT screw up the shifting (which happens to be as good as I've ever had it.)?
