I was working at a bicycle shop in Providence around 1975-1976 and we had a little orange Miyata for sale (don't recall the model) - and for some reason it went unsold for quite a while -
I couldn't figure it out why, it had better frame material and components than the comparably priced Raleigh Grand Prix, Fuji S-10-S, and Peugeot UO-8, but it was an orphan.
I tried many times to sell the little beauty, according to the store manager, I started sounding like a vacuum cleaner salesman. At that point I gave up on the Miyata, but always wondered who bought her.

A little contribution from Norway. Heres my friends Koga-Miyata Fullpro, size c-c 53cm, from 1981 and my Miyata 712, size c-c 56cm, from 1987.
Both frames are completely rust-free and in really good shape.
The Koga, Tange Champion frame, has an unoriginal derailleur (a shim 105 in stead of Dura-Ace) and front gear (shim 600 in stead of Dura-ace) and shim 105 breaks, but Dura-ace break handles, and tubular rims.
It was like this, for some reason, when he bought it.
Mine, Miyata triple butted frame, has a complete 105 setup with tubular rims, and biopace chainrings and I think the chain, handlebar tape and saddle is the same as it came with. I bought it from Fretex, a thrift store, for 800 NOK (ca. $100)

I can't take much more of this ... I've had a Team Miyata on the brain for a long time (81-86), with no luck in finding a decent 56. Looking at m_sasso's beautiful example is kind of painful (I'm thinking the 81-84's are the pinnacle, aesthetically). Let me guess, you got it for $100 at the Salvation Army?
I guess I should just go buy an aluminum bike and try to forget that such exquisite machines ever existed.

I guess I had never posted pics of my last two acquisitions -
In June I had picked up a '84 Miyata-built Univega Gran Tourismo (roughly equivalent to a Miyata 610). Dangit! The pic hosting of that one is gone!
Last month I picked up an '86 Miyata 710 for $120 while visiting my mother out in Arizona...
The 710 will be staying out in AZ to give me something to ride when I visit. Needs new consumables, but nothing major. It will be getting one of my spare sets of SunTour barcons as the biggest change from stock configuration. I'll need to find a better seat as well...
When I go back to AZ in a couple months, I hope to ride this from Gold Canyon to Tucson and back...

I did that on my '75 Fuji S-10S, '84 Univega Viva Sport, and '84 Univega Gran Tourismo before! The Fuji and Gran Tourismo originally used clamped-on downtube shifters, and the Viva Sport had the Symmetric mount on top of the downtube like the Miyata 710 does. The Gran Tourismo has a small braze-on locator to keep the downtube shifters from sliding down the downtube. I used the mono-mount lug on the Viva Sport and 710 in the same manner.

I'm on the bandwagon! 1982 (I think, based on color scheme) 610 I built into my touring bike for a trip, pictured here on the North Sea!
