BigBossMan Appreciation Thread
I recently heard about a bike that was about an hour from BBM. I asked him if he could help facilitate the deal.
Not only did he take half a day on Sunday to check the bike out, he fronted the cash necessary to make it happen, and did a most excellent job of packing and shipping the bike.
I know he has helped out more than one other forum member, and I'd just like to take the time to publicly thank him.
It's people like him that make this particular corner of the bike world a great place.
Thanks BBM! I've arranged a ride from and back to the airport for you, free food & lodging while you are in PHX, and the use of a luxury home in N. Scottsdale to unwind at after the TdS.
It's the least I could do!

I can just tell by reading him the past couple of years, he's A-OK. Generous with knowlege & from the few times I've noticed with help & parts too. He's a possitive person. He's got good avitars and even nicer bikes. That's my take.

Good idea OFG. bigbossman gets plenty of thanks from me. He tolerates my slow rate of forward motion on rides. He's wrenched on a few of my flip bikes and put together my Velo Retro Contest entry. On a extended lunch hour he took apart a thrashed chrome Paramount I came across, and then later hosted a gathering to rebuild it. My herd was void of any decent Italian steel, so last December he convinced me to buy a nice Chesini X-Uno frame on ebay, pointed me at appropriate components for it he found online, put the bike together, and he even had the grace to shake it down for a couple weeks. Here is that one.....

BBM is one swell dude!
Several personal ways he has been very generous to me.
Last December I visited the SF Bay area on a very tight schedule and in PM's he was very helpful with the particulars I needed information on.
And then this past Spring, when I was contemplating building my first modern ride, who did I turn to first? BBM! We traded a few PMs and he provided some very helpful links to British sights with great deals on components. After narrowing some decisions down, he suggested I give him a call. So one Sunday afternoon (for me) we spent at least an hour on the phone talking about the Cannondale below and all things bike! John could not have been more helpful! So even when separated by an entire continent's width, BBM is there for his fellow C&Vers!
Great idea to start this thread, OFG!

I'll reiterate what I said a while back,i t's pretty obvious:
If BBM sells you a bike, you were done right, period.
If BBM tells you a bike is worth X, pay it.
If he warns you about a bike, it's because he believes you need to know about it.
He is what he is.

Always treated me right, even after I stiffed him on a deal for some rims.
I THINK I made up for it with a free pair of Dia-Compe aero levers, though

I'll add my untalented voice to the choir. BBM sent some parts needed to finish building up three MTBs for our Scouts. The bikes were used on last year's High Adventure trip exploring the Pine Creek trail, and some more rugged side-trips. Other BF members helped also, but this is BBM's thread.

Another happy GrandeJefeHombre customer! He sent me four old-style, pre-bigmouth bottles for the price of postage.
That might sound petty, but it was HUGE to me!! My pedaling form was suffering because the inside of my knees were lightly contacting my stupid big-mouth bottle mounted on the seat tube. Thanks to BBM, I'm back on the way to a fluid, effortless pedalstroke!
If I were a chick, I would want to have like, ten-thousand of his babies.
Presently I wish I were an orangutan, so I could use my feet to give him FOUR enthusiastic thumbs UP!

I had the pleasure of spending the better part of a day at BBM's place a while back while we had a few beers and reassembled BlankCrows' chrome Paramount. The bike was back together by mid-afternoon and we all took turns riding it around the block. BBM is a gracious host, and freely offers his time, sage advice, and exceptional skills to BF members seeking assistance.

I'm still mad at Big Boss Man and Bam Bam Bigelow for ambushing Hulk Hogan and the Macho Man Randy Savage on the way to the ring. These sort of things aren't easily forgiven- even 19 years down the road.

I don't know BBM, but this is without question the nicest, most helpful and bright group of people I've come across on line. The first time I used this forum, I found all of you folks simply amazing, and I'm having the same experience this time around. Makes me want to stick around...I just don't feel like I have the knowledge and experience base to help that most of you posess.

Will you people stop it already? I have to ride with the guy, and his head is swelled enough as it is.
Actually, you folks have understated it. John is very knowledgable, very generous with info, time and skill, and has a sense of humor every bit as twisted as mine. He has gone from being an Internet buddy to being a favorite riding companion and a cherished friend.

Wow. I hope people talk about me that way when I die.
+1 about the forum's people in general. I don't know BBM, but of course I've read his posts. And I have had a couple of phone conversations with OFG. A nice welcome note from East Hill. Overall, a very good experience on this board thanks to people like these three, and more. You all are the main reason I am SO into bikes at such an age.
Er, not that I'm saying it's YOUR fault I brought home thirty bikes to overflow the garage...

So who do you blame it on? I'm running out of excuses, I think my wife's writing them down, caught me on a repeat the other day. "working on them for a friend." I'll have to start a thread....

He's been in AZ for 48 hours now. Can I take the thread back?
What a tool.
He farts, he belches, eats everything in site, and leaves crap all over.
I keed! We are having a blast. Tomorrow is the Tour de Scottsdale, and though we will bid him farewell shortly after the start, we've had a blast.
Today we did a short warm up, a little over 30 miles, with about 3000' of climbing. He hung right in, and soon we are off to eat, if I can pry him of the sofa!
