My latest ride Trek 560EX
I was going to flip the frame, but after my first ride, it changed my mind. I was surprised how entertaining the ride was. Great handling, stiff frame, nice acceleration, and just a little on the twitchy side, plus I love the milky white with blue accent. The anodized finish on the 600EX brakes are stunning. The Araya CTL370 rims on 600 hubs are very light, weight about the same as my Fiamme Hard Silver rims on Superbe hubs. The bike weights about 22.8lbs with pedals and bottle holders.

Was the 80's Trek built by hands or automated machines? I read somewhere the Trek frames were brazed by robot or automated machines in the early 80's.

Yeah, I am not a Trek fan either. If it wasn't for the ride quality, and the color scheme. The frame would be on eBay already. None of the 600 components were on the bike when I got it except for the brakes calipers.

What's up with the Trek trashing?
Every time I feel so proud of myself for the great clean-up job I've done on an old bike that I want to share it with the Forum, I see a bike like this that makes me want to rebuild and clean the bike all over again. It's the small details that I obsess over and I can't find a flaw in yours. How do you do it?
Oh, and either you have very small hills in your area or you have hulk legs.

I live in Seattle, and there are a few hills around here. I usually only ride on trails though and those trails have gentle inclines.

You might find out on the vintage trek site. I have had a Trek 520 since '85 and don't care how they made it, I'm just glad they did. It's a great ride and yours looks beautiful!

Very nice Treks abarth and lefthread.
Here is a picture of my '87 EX Pro in metallic gray/black fade, as found on CL for $100.
The good news is I was able to pull off all the non original stuff and put to other uses. The bike is in great shape and will soon be back to original, non molested form.

How are the fenders and rack mounted? So there is room for fenders, thats good to know. Looks like all you need to change out are the shifters, stem, and hoods. For $100 that's a great deal.

Yes fenders will fit, but if I was going to run them on this bike I'd go with the race blades or similar due to lack of eyelets.
I was quite happy to find this bike. Despite it's current configuration, it should go back to stock without much trouble. Besides shifter and stem, I need to find a set of hoods for the 600 levers. The ones that were on the bike were deteriorated as well as being wrong for the levers. I also found a set of correct Biopace chainrings to replace the round Shimano rings and am still looking for correct rear brake shoes and tire guides.

Rode it this morning. Somewhat twitchy-more noticeable at low speed.
Quick acceleration out of the saddle. Smooth and solid.
I like your low angle shot with the wheel in the frame, btw.
Nice bikes, raverson and vettefrc2000.
